By law in UK don't you have to give back any money that a bank gives you in error? As far as I know, you're not legally allowed to keep/spend it.

Same thing happened recently in NZ. It is Bank fraud but the bank decided not to press charges. Someone put the wrong denomination in the wrong place, i.e 20's where the 10's should have been.
