.A business class passenger flying a United long-haul flight from San Francisco to Manila in the Philippines has been banned from flying with the airline after they urinated on a fellow passenger.
Jerome Gutierrez from Hillsborough, California in the Bay Area was sleeping in his business class seat and was four hours into the 15 hour journey, lulled into a slumber by the hum of the engines on UA 189, when he was suddenly awoken by the sensation of liquid hitting him.
The incident, which left passengers and crew in a state of disbelief occurred on December 27 as the offending traveler, allegedly in a dazed stupor, began urinating on Gutierrez, completely oblivious to what he was doing
The warm stream seeped through layers of clothing, leaving Gutierrez drenched in humiliation and disbelief.
Gutierrez had no change of clothes leaving him with no option but to sit in his urine soaked attire for remainder of the flight - a further eleven hours as the cold, damp reality set in.
'He was asleep and buckled in and was surprised when he looked at the man and thought he was dreaming,' Nicole Cornell, Gutierrez's stepdaughter, said to SFGate.
'Jerome realized he was soaked from his stomach down in that man's urine,' she said.
Cornell claims the response of the crew left much to be desired.
Rather than address the clear biohazard or the emotional distress inflicted upon Gutierrez, the crew reportedly prioritized maintaining in-flight order with the plane midway over the Pacific.
Gutierrez was told to remain calm and 'not to approach the man in fear that there would be a confrontation, and he would become violent.'
'They put the airline's needs above his health,' Cornell wrote, her outrage palpable.
'I am so disgusted and in shock with how United Airlines handled this! That is a biohazard, and the plane should've turned around to address this issue.'
They feared a violent confrontation Cornell explained, but in doing so left her stepdad in soaked, unsanitary clothes for the remaining eight hours of the flight.
