The Palestinian people deserve a state of their own - Biden

    By Joe Biden
    November 18, 2023 at 2:01 p.m. EST

The Palestinian people deserve a state of their own and a future free from Hamas. I, too, am heartbroken by the images out of Gaza and the deaths of many thousands of civilians, including children. Palestinian children are crying for lost parents. Parents are writing their child’s name on their hand or leg so they can be identified if the worst happens. Palestinian nurses and doctors are trying desperately to save every precious life they possibly can, with little to no resources. Every innocent Palestinian life lost is a tragedy that rips apart families and communities.

Our goal should not be simply to stop the war for today — it should be to end the war forever, break the cycle of unceasing violence, and build something stronger in Gaza and across the Middle East so that history does not keep repeating itself.

This much is clear: A two-state solution is the only way to ensure the long-term security of both the Israeli and Palestinian people. Though right now it may seem like that future has never been further away, this crisis has made it more imperative than ever.

A two-state solution — two peoples living side by side with equal measures of freedom, opportunity and dignity — is where the road to peace must lead. Reaching it will take commitments from Israelis and Palestinians, as well as from the United States and our allies and partners. That work must start now.

To that end, the United States has proposed basic principles for how to move forward from this crisis, to give the world a foundation on which to build.

To start, Gaza must never again be used as a platform for terrorism. There must be no forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, no reoccupation, no siege or blockade, and no reduction in territory. And after this war is over, the voices of Palestinian people and their aspirations must be at the center of post-crisis governance in Gaza.

As we strive for peace, Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a revitalized Palestinian Authority, as we all work toward a two-state solution. I have been emphatic with Israel’s leaders that extremist violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those committing the violence must be held accountable. The United States is prepared to take our own steps, including issuing visa bans against extremists attacking civilians in the West Bank.

The international community must commit resources to support the people of Gaza in the immediate aftermath of this crisis, including interim security measures, and establish a reconstruction mechanism to sustainably meet Gaza’s long-term needs. And it is imperative that no terrorist threats ever again emanate from Gaza or the West Bank.

If we can agree on these first steps, and take them together, we can begin to imagine a different future. In the months ahead, the United States will redouble our efforts to establish a more peaceful, integrated and prosperous Middle East — a region where a day like Oct. 7 is unthinkable.

    It's all bluff and bluster.

Meanwhile half the Gaza strip has been razed to rubble and is soon to be the new Israeli Costa del Sol.

Keep making the right noises Biden it's nearly over now.

I agree with Biden, provided that the Palestineans acknowledge Israels right to exist. They don't so this is not an issue. There was an agreement on the table that acknowledged the right to a state for both but the Palestineans - Yassir Arafat back then - did not sign it.

There have been several attempts to establish a 2 state solution. All have failed for one reason or another. Will another attempt be a failure or will this time given the magnitude of this "war" finally bring it about? Worth a try imho.

^ Not the 22 Arab states, many of whom refuse to accept another country's existence (Israel) and fuel the Hamas fire (so, it's contextual).

The major barrier to a Palestinian state has always been other Arab (and Persian) states/countries. After the Kuwait war, Kuwait and other Gulf states kicked the Palestinians out (and many ended up in Jordan). Egypt won't let them in. Of course the Palestinians should have their own state - they once had an offer of nearly 80% of current Israel, but turned it down (under huge pressure from the likes of Iran, Turkey, and other local Muslim countries).

Egypt have Israel as a buffer between them and Iran controlled/backed states, so would like the Palestinian state as far away as possible. Jordan and Lebanon have a high number of Palestinians, so locally, broadening the West Bank (removing many of the Israeli "settlements") could be an option. But, you still have the problem of displacing people from their homeland which is patently unfair.

The biggest problem is Muslim/Arab(Qatar especially)/Persian/Turkish politics around the problem - they all like the situation as is; it hurts Israel, it threatens Egypt and Saudi Arabia, it costs the US money, it allows them to assert influence on the Global stage, the list goes on. This same group would block any Palestinian state, imho. But, it won't get that far anyways, sadly.

Arabs HAVE been offered a state of their own, other than the 22 established muslim ones in the area. From 1936 they have been offered their country, which they could have called Palestine FIVE times, they always said no as they don't want a 2 state solution just one, their own. Pity Israel always agreed while muslim hatred of Jews prevented them accepting, they thought constant war was a better option. Palestinian IQ is usually rated about 77!

A young Israeli woman begs for her life. A moment later she is shot at point blank range.

New footage from October 7th shows Hamas terrorists executing Israelis who tried to escape from the Nova music festival.

This is a war between good and evil.

I don't support Israel's heavy-handedness, but I can understand it - Iran and other states use the lunatics of hamas to do their bidding against America, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel. Look at the video a couple of posts above, this is a Palestinian's first hand knowledge, it is not Israeli or American propaganda.

Until the abusive situation towards the Palestinians from the Iranian/other muslim states is addressed, a solution cannot be found. Israel wants a solution. Iran, Turkey, Qatar, etc, do not want a solution for the Palestinians, they want to play politics with no concern for the Palestinian people's welfare.

This video is obviously from a single perspective, so it is biased - the situation has various sides, perspectives and nuances. Fundamentally, however, the facts in this video are mostly correct as far as my fact checking can see (obviously, I am no expert in this area, so I suggest, if you're interested, then check for yourself the history and facts):

They are Palestinians you racist English prat and they already had their own land which another English prat (Arthur Balfour) gave to the jews.

The Balfour declaration acknowledges Palestine in its opening statement "Establishment in Palestine of a national home for the jewish people"

Offering the Palestinians their own state in someone else's land is not a solution, two wrongs doesn't make one right.

Arabs did not start calling themselves Palestinians until Arafat founded the PLO in 1964, he should have called in the IDO - the destruction of Israel organisation. The Arabs were not indigenous, that is the Jews who were there in their capital Jerusalem over 3000 years ago, and there were always Jews living there even after the war with Rome. When the PLO was founded Israel only occupied itself, all the other areas it went onto occupy, Sinai, Gaza, west bank and Golan height were all the result of it being attacked by muslim armies, the first war being the day after Israel was founded.
There is NO Palestine to free, Gaza has been since 2005 and the rest of the old mandate is Israel and part of Jordan. It has nothing to do with race, it's a problem of religious hatred on the part of muslims who could have had a two state solution over and over. Nobody mentions 'freeing' all the countries Islamic countries occupied, how about freeing Cyprus from the invaders or Constantinople ?

Whatever land the palestinians receive by way of an internationally agreed settlement, one thing is guaranteed and that is they will turn it into a filthy, decrepit and ungovernable corrupt shithole within 3 years. Their women will be subjugated, poofs will be jailed or worse, and the tribal infighting that has blighted the islam world for millennia will continue unabated.

in spite of the outpouring of hypocritical and mawkish handwringing by the wests wokester loons, fired up as usual by the cynical nihilist activist mob with their oppressor/oppresed colonial shite, the palestinians have no real friends. they are pariahs. duplicitous and untrustworthy.

best the israelis are left to kill hamas, and then show the women and children the path to democracy and human rights, because left to their "brothers", they will just continue to be used as pawns in the "river to the sea" agenda promoted noisily by iran and less noisily by syria, russia and the increasingly lawless scum of the yemen.

and its no good blaming the brits or balfour. that was 80 years ago. it's what is happening now that needs attending to.

To be honest; I have been searching for a decent excuse to kill them palestinian children.

Finally you came up with a reasonable one

    Thanks
