    Black Out UK possible

No not free trips to Rwanda but despite PMs assurance power interruptions may occur.

Seems incredible when we condsider UK good fortune

A rock surrounded by viable tidal waves
    Strong winter winds
home to first civil nuclear power
Cornwall's thermal energy not to speak of hot air used oil
The island is littered with coal from Kent to Somerset Yorkshire to Bristol

Yet the ownership and distribution is not a service but many private firms

In addition to all the above there is Hydro
North sea Gas including direct links to Norway
North Sea and Celtic sea fields

UK warned it could face three-hour daily blackouts this winter

We're not preppers as our village will never run out of food and water, fuel maybe, net likely but a few months supply of rice, local wood fuel and fish fowl and Lao Khao should see us through most emergencies. Absence of Lakorn may pf course result in ear ache so I I am buying partner a good stock of silver to make jewellery Thai "Literature" and seeds while we go shopping today for Candles.

Yes, we have become third world countries.

    And why?

Because we have continiued to elect the same corrupt and/or incompetent politicians, who have been busy to privatize/deregulate our energy sector, which we, the taxpayers has developed and subsidised up to being worth something.

Then the Goldman Sachs types come waltzing in and with them we can start paying "world markets" prices for our own fucking silverware.

    And then comes Ukraine

Very handy for the war profiteering energy sector.

Not so handy for many millions of not so well of people and the politicians go.....huh ?

Oh dear, have we been stupid

One should live in Thailand, where the solar panels work when you need your air con and where everybody knows, that politicians are shit and expect nothing good from their side

Electrical supplies are very vulnerable to sabotage.
Take out the power transformers in the larger switchyards (outdoor substations) with RPGs or drone strikes and there goes the network. These transformers cannot be bought off the shelf usually and take a while to make.
Even spreading conductive dusts around a switchyard will cause damage that takes time to repair.

And where does the parts come from ?

When the day comes, when we are asked to sanction China, I hope for more brain capacity among our leaders

The parts are simple. Laminated steel cores, copper windings, paper winding insulation, bonding resins and mineral oil aren’t exotic.
Voltage regulators, tap changers and gas / fault detection and protection gear are slightly more complicated but can be manufactured domestically in many countries.
But it takes time to design and make these transformers - time in which people have no electricity.
