Forget Sears - Bye Bye Roger David

Forget Sears - Bye Bye Roger David-10391528-3x2-940x627-jpg

Menswear retailer Roger David has entered voluntary administration, blaming global competition, stagnant sales and rising fixed costs.

"The company has been exploring all options, including a sale of the business, but has been unable to find an alternative to administration," said Craig Shepard, a partner at KordaMentha, the administrators.

Roger David has been selling suits and men's fashion since 1942, and had more than 100 stores at its peak — under its own brand name, RDX and Stray.
Since then, its store count has dwindled to 57, and it currently employs 300 people.

"Today marks a sad day for in the long history of Roger David menswear and for Australian retail," the company's directors Courtney Howe and Lauren Thompson said in a joint statement.

They said their understanding is that "the doors will remain open and it will be business as usual for the upcoming peak retail period in an effort to maximise the options for the business."

"Despite the directors' best efforts with the business, it simply could not compete with the influx of multinational retailers and the rapid, global evolution of online shopping."
Although they did not name any specific competitors, Amazon, H&M and Zara are commonly cited as the global retailers that have intensified competition for many local fashion retailers.

^ Just curious...why does that say 18-10-2018 07:58 PM? It's not that time in Thailand yet, nor was it that time in Australia less than an hour ago?

It was 21:31 in parts of Australia (Sydney/Brisbane etc) when he posted that at 17:31 Thai time.

Well, duh. 4 hours difference with Aus east. So you're explaining that (on the 18th) an OP at 4:54 pm (Thai), 8:54 pm (Aus Eastern) got repo'ed at 7:58 pm.
Two things I gather. David is not on Australian Eastern time but an hour later, and TD shows repo at the repo receiver's home time, not the repo-giver's or Thai time.

Or Ray has a time machine.

He was being facetious. I read about Sears going bankrupt or something. I'm assuming this is the same as Sears Roebuck, the mail order company for rural folk? My family got given a subscription to Mother Earth News by some US visitors and I remember reading references to the catalogue in all the editions.

Best store was on the top of a hill on Geary St in San Francisco. Acres of free parking. Bought tools and long underwear there for a long time. Plus in Arabia all we had was that catalog. Most birthday and Christmas gifts came in shipments from Sears Roebuck at that time.

    So was I.

Seems Sears is done and dusted.

Sears files for bankruptcy protection, will close another 142 stores - Chicago Tribune

How the mighty have fallen. The once named Sears tower is still the tallest Chicago building.

    You mean an hour earlier.

So you think that he posted it at 7:54pm his time.

and TD shows repo at the repo receiver's home time, not the repo-giver's or Thai time.

Then received a repo for it at 7:58pm his time.

Or Ray has a time machine.
Why would he need that to repo a post that was posted 4 minutes earlier?

To roger means to fuck, in the better parts of the World.

A shop named Roger David would probably have those tablecloth-esque short sleeved shirts in it.

    Time machines aren't real thicko.

    You're very slow at times.
You missed completely the main point: repo shows up as the receiver's time, not Thai time nor the repo-giver's time. I didn't realise that but now do.

Roger that! Your time in the Antipodeans was obviously well spent.

Who cares who is taking the piss (except Mr Earl, of course) ... just a bit of fun.

I'm sure Sears was a wonderfull institution in it's heyday.
An USA icon which didn't seem to change fast enough for the modern consumer.

Candian Sears still going? YD ... can you confirm?

Heaps of other stores (in the west ... Hi Nev) who are going the way of the Dinosaur, Roger David a point in case.

Oh ... I did buy my first suit there, a double breasted, fine merino wool grey pinstriper for living in London.

Must be an Aussie thing and of their own particular interest.

And yes, Newbie Dave, we don't give a rat's arse about Rogering David.

Was Roger David the Aussies answer to Saville Row?

Did you get called a sheep shagger much in your woolen suit?

Can't remember buying stuff from the catalogue but I'm sure my missus bought some children's clothes.

Bought stuff in the store though... Craftsman stuff is/was good. The DIY man's Snap-On
