Nico, one of the world’s oldest gorillas, has died at Longleat Safari Park

Nico, one of the world’s oldest silverback gorillas, has died at Longleat Safari Park. The 56-year-old great ape passed away in his sleep on Sunday. He spent most of his life at the park in Wiltshire after arriving from Switzerland in the 1980s. Staff celebrated his birthday in July, giving him a cake with carrot candles – but they were unsure of his exact age and said there was a likelihood he may have been older than 56.

Certainly agree with Ort... in fact, I don't think that we should keep any
    Animals in captivity TBH.

(Especially of the ape family i.e. our own).

Seeing real animals up close and personal is an educational experience for human children. If they are only pictures or images on videos why worry about them? It is only a video game.

    Cnut.

He's now the Conservative Member of Parliament for West Wiltshire.

I grew up next to Longleat - literally. Used to have a night club in the centre called Oscars. Dreadful place. You needed curtains to get in it seemed/

Used to bring in "celebs" as well.

Old grunter gorillas prefer solitude and live apart in the wild. Anyway, he shared his island with his mate for years until she popped her clogs.

Great photos of the ape.. thought it was KW for a quick second.
The last pic of him from the link makes him look so wise.

The movie, Kong: Skull Island had an ape that huge.
