    Anthony Wilson Dies

Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has died of cancer. The Salford-born entrepreneur, who founded Factory records, the label behind New Order and the Happy Mondays, was diagnosed last year.

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Manchester | Anthony Wilson dies from cancer

A real shame. In his last days he needed £3500 a month to pay for his own cancer treatment as the NHS said no deal. I don't know if he had it. It angers me that they can pay for tummy tucks, sex changes, boob jobs - you name it - but they couldn't do anything for him.

There's a guy who had a good few stories.

Heard Shaun Ryder on Radio 2 a couple of weeks back, the guy's on nicorette patches. Things move on don't they.

    Cheers for the music Tony!

Had a look at the 'flood' of tributes outside the Hacienda today.

Four dead flowers & that's it.

A legend. Very very knowledgable guy.

Who chose to stay behind the scenes.

Hence only the four sets of flowers at the Hacienda.

I never went to the Hassy, then again I am not from Manchester.

Step On is a great song and Morrissey is a geezer.

I never been to Manchester though my older brother was pilling out at the Hacienda most nights when he lived up there.

Always liked this pic of Tony and Shaun.

Well dead at 57, but what a great life, well done to the guy.

Just watching the BBC 3 minute clip life of Tony Wilson thing. Interviewer asks Shaun Ryder if he started by dropping off a tape to him, classic Shaun says "Well I used to drop off weed for him".

Just saw a few clips of something myself on the news.

Did you know? Blue Monday by New Order is the biggest-selling 12" in UK history but they never made a penny off it. Why? The record sleeve costs more to print than the thing sold for.

Wasn't the best businessman in the world was he. Having a record label and not owning any of the music they produced was a bit silly.

I read on the BBC that he claimed that in 1992 just before Factory went bankrupt he was gonna sign Oasis and Pulp.

He had more enemies than friends in that field, it turns out. Also, when your business attracts the kind of characters he was known to associate with you're on your back foot all of the time.

This is an actual poster for the movie 24 Hour Party People, a film loosely based on the rise of what was 'Madchester'. The faces depict Curtis (genius), Ryder (poet) & Wilson (twat).

    He loved it.

A nice little site here on the history of the Hacienda, with more than a passing nod to Tony & other related stuff.

    The Hacienda Manchester

I'm pleased to report that the tributes for Tony outside the Hac are growing every day. The flag on the town hall is also flying at half-mast.

Tony was buried yesterday at Southern Cemetary

    The flowers

Have a look at the flowers left outside the Hacienda - note the vandalism, this guy sure had his enemies in this town, too.
