Russia Warns US Troops in Ukraine Could Destabilize Situation

Russia has warned that the presence of foreign military personnel could "destabilize" the situation in Ukraine, after U.S. paratroopers arrived this week to train Ukrainian solders.

A spokesman for President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters Friday that instructors from "third countries," besides Russia or Ukraine, could upset the situation in Ukraine's east, where pro-Russia rebels are engaged in an armed rebellion against Ukrainian forces.

A U.S. airborne brigade arrived in Ukraine this week to conduct a series of training sessions with Ukrainian troops.

On Thursday, President Putin accused the United States of trying to dominate international relations, but said Russia is still "always open to cooperation."

He spoke Thursday in an annual live question-and-answer session on Russian television during which he took questions from members of the Russian public.

Referring to the United States, Putin said "major superpowers that claim their uniqueness and consider themselves the only center of power in the world" need "vassals," not "allies."

He said that after World War II Moscow tried to impose its model of development on many Eastern European countries by force, and "there was nothing good" in this. The Americans are now "acting in a similar way by trying to impose their model around the world," he said, adding that they too would fail.

The Russian president also suggested that the United States had pressured some European leaders not to attend events in Moscow on May 9 commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

Europe really needs to tell the US to fuk off once and for all and have Russia as the friend and part of Europe that it is.

Don't need their sort in the eurozone. The Russian elite's trampling of and utter contempt for the democratic process hasn't moved forward much from the Stalinist era. More bread and circuses for the people, that's all.

Russia due its size is pretty much ungovernable in places, but it was doing well all things considered. It's not Russia going round the world invading countries or reneging on treaties it signed up to. But you got an election coming up in the US so you need to create some enemies, gotta fight them mad Iranians even though Iran hasn't invaded anyone and gotta save yourselves from those Commies even though Russia is probably more capitalist than the US these days, funny old world ain't it....

    Yep...
Would be beneficial for the European community in the long run.

As a collective, they do seem to cower indifferently towards American presence and influence instead of candidly telling the Yanks to fuck off.

True, but then Russia was never really communist (in the strict Marxian sense).
And yes, US should look to Putin as shining example of where it is headed in the next few decades. True, Russia hasn't invaded Ukraine... it was invited in by it's exploited peoples. Mind you, due regard, that move setting up Iran with missiles is a good move and is to be applauded. Good on 'em.

He should just threaten to shoot down another airliner. They've done fuck all about the last time he did it.

Heh...believe General George S. Patton would disagree with you on that.

^^ Didn't he end up in a loony bin?

I think Europe's best interests are represented by engaging with both parties, both diplomatically and on a trade and investment basis. The EU is it's own entity, with a GDP larger than the USA (last I knew), and much larger than Russia's. They need not, and should not, kowtow to anyone.

Nato seems increasingly out of touch, fossilized old Cold Wariors that are long dead, just not buried yet.

The NATO grunts will do as they are told.

The "elected" politicians however, all promise milk and honey, but deliver only bitter oranges. They are the ones that are increasingly out of touch even with their own populations.

The newly arrived "trainers" have already been told they are the tripwire, which NATO will avenge. Isn't that what they signup for, to be remembered on certain anniversaries as dying, "for the glory of the empire"?

Patton still held up as a saint by some it seems.

Got a link to the "Official investigation report", I am still waiting for? But maybe I missed it.

I believe Russia has already announced any use of NATO forces will be met with a forceful reaction including nuclear weapons. NATO forces and it's suppliers of weapons includes European countries mainly, but a few others who could receive military and civilian casualties. I am sure they have already had discussions with the NATO leaders as to which cities they would like targeted.
