Heathrow weapons find leads to arrest of Swansea man

A man from Swansea has been arrested at Heathrow Airport after weapons including three stun guns and two flick knives were found in luggage.

Two knuckledusters, an extendable baton, a throwing star and a pair of nun-chucks were also found on Tuesday in a piece of luggage which had come from Bangkok in Thailand.

The National Crime Agency's Border Policing Command officers questioned a 57-year-old man from Cockett.

He was released on bail until April.

The haul was found by officers carrying out customs checks in Terminal 3 at Heathrow.

Marc Owen, director of Border Force Heathrow, said: "In the wrong hands these items could be potentially lethal, which is why the controls on bringing them into the UK are so strict.

"Although items like stun guns and knives are more readily available in some countries we would urge people to think twice before attempting to bring them back into the UK.

"Border Force officers are on constant alert to stop offensive weapons entering the UK. The penalties for smuggling can be severe and ignorance of the law is not an excuse."

People always want to bring home with them , souvenirs ,but trying to bring home those sort of momentous is asking for potential trouble if you get stopped.
Only a young man would want souvenirs like that.

Australia seems to be a bit more relaxed about those kinds of items. Just confisate them.

All of which, including the luggage, on can be purchased on Sukhumvit or Silom from a street vendor.

I'm surprised he didn't have a few grenades with him.

Can't you buy nun-chucks in Britain these days? Used to be able to (when I was a lad).

Seems you still can. Prices start at £5.49: http://www.martialartshop.co.uk/nunchaku/

I went through Swampy, few years back, and security confiscated a lighter from my carry-on bag, because it was shaped like a bullet.

On the airport in Dhaka staff confiscated all lighters once, I reckon they were after additional income looking for valuable ones. At Swampy on my very first flight out from this airport an airline representative asked the passengers to take all their luggage to the cabin, they needed the compartment for cargo methinks. So no baggage check at the first counter, only shortly before boarding the plane. Big problem, I had a crossbow in my suitcase. The long ways on Swampi also sucked with the heavy luggage. Never again made any concessions towards airline staff.
