Boat Race Protester Faces Deportation From UK

Australian Trenton Oldfield - who was jailed for six months for disrupting the Boat Race - says he will appeal the decision.

Boat Race protester Trenton Oldfield has been refused a visa to stay in Britain after the Home Office told him his continued presence in the country was not "conducive to the public good."
The 37-year-old Australian, who was jailed for six months for disrupting the 158th Boat Race, told The Guardian he has been ordered to leave the UK.
Oldfield, who has lived in Britain for more than 10 years and whose British wife is expecting a child, told the newspaper he had lodged an appeal against the refusal of a spousal visa.
"No one was expecting this. I have a tier one visa, as a highly skilled migrant, and I was sentenced to less than a year," he said.
"The lawyer said I had nothing to worry about because it was less than a year. It feels to me that this is a very vindictive decision, very political and very much an overreaction."
Oldfield was watched by millions of television viewers as he halted the annual race between Oxford and Cambridge universities on April 7 last year.
He was convicted at Isleworth Crown Court of causing a public nuisance.
The judge said Oldfield had acted dangerously and disproportionately and had not shown what he was actually protesting against.
In addition he had displayed prejudice in sabotaging the event, which he regarded as elitist.
Oldfield told The Guardian that he and his 36-year-old wife "clearly have a life together" in Britain and that he did not intend to return to Australia.
"We work together, we publish books, we run two not-for-profit organisations. Every part of our lives is entangled together here. We are about to have a family," he said.
A spokesman for the Home Office told the newspaper: "Those who come to the UK must abide by our laws.

How come a white, non Muslim can be easily deported from the UK without any trouble for the most petty thing yet wanted and dangerous Muslim terrorists seem to be able to remain in the UK untouchable ? Do Muslim terrorists have more human rights that Australians ?
It took the UK more than 10 years to deport a wanted Muslim to America at a cost of Millions and yet we simply deport white, British business owners accused of selling batteries that the USA says he can't to face years in an American jail without a hitch
There seems to be something seriously wrong with the justice system in the UK today.
IT IS WARPED, TWISTED AND SICK

An out and out TOOL this man might be but he isn't a threat to anyone in the UK unlike others that are free to remain and on benefits and free housing as well.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !

The Aussie says that he will appeal against the sentence , just like the Muslim did .
The Muslim bases his defence on that he may face torture back in his home Country and the UK cannot deport people who face torture .
    Every case is different

^^ My non legal take is.

I suspect the Muslim so-called terrorists may not have been convicted of a crime therefore deportation would be based on prejudice. This guy has been convicted and has done this shit before, maybe.

If he doesn't have the "right of abode" or whatever it is called now he shouldn't have been acting in a way that could be considered not "conducive to the public good."

I am sure if here on an O or B visa you wouldn't feck around like that here in Thailand?

Getting one's 15 mins of fame sound like a hoot but not when it involves national security like Julian Assange/Edward Snowden or in this case where he thought it would be a great hoot to disrupt a classic historic sporting event. If he was 14 they would have viewed it differently but he is 37. FFS

Oldfield told Isleworth Crown Court that his actions were a protest against elitism and inequality.
Well now he is finding out who decides who stays and who leaves Maybe the elite and the more than equal?

I might feel differently if Oxford had won

Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

It is not inconceivable that a court may decide that he has the means to take his wife and child to Australia to live should they wish to remain together.

I listened to a program on Radio 4 about illegal immigrants in the UK.
To sum up my Lord a Nigerian illegal immigrant in Germany lost his case to stay there he didn't like it there anyway as he was sent to a small village in Germany waiting for his case for right to stay to be heard stating political asylum.Moaned that in the village he was being racially abused then found out he was to be deported.Decided to marry a German woman he then became a EU National they moved to London they divorced he still lives in London job done.

In other words they have set a charity up , thus avoiding tax etc , but still pay themselves a fat salary each for running it , probably funded by grants , donations and min wage / volunteer workers .
why dosen't he go and live in Aussie ?
Isnt thier economy booming , unlike Britains ?
Perhaps because he would have to get a real job there .

    verdict:
send him back where he comes from !!
