Nice pics
Those bunkers ?
For shelter or for storing potatoes ?
Keep 'em coming, Jack. Many a happy holiday as a wee bairn spent in Nairn and my uncle has been living in Inverness so long that the English accent was lost many moons ago.
Plenty of social isolation in your neck of the woods Jack.
Been researching a bike ride in those parts when restrictions are lifted.
Missing the travel threads on here of late.
Keep them coming!
Everyone loves a photothread!
Bleak, but beautiful at the same time - rather like Jack...
Thanks for the pics, Jack!
Place reminds me of the hills where the husky/malamute Sherpa goes to
(yes, I watch dog & cat videos on YT as a stress/ boredom reliever, lol)
Cheers!
Looks like you'd need a dry suit to go for a swim, Jack.
Great stuff Jacko and I agree with Betty, bleak but beautiful at the same time.
Wild salmon only.
I will get some pics of the beaches in the summer when they allow access.
Nice pics Jack... Any eels?
The NE firth and hinterland is a somewhat charmless, soulless and desolate place which on a bitter grey November day with leaden grey skies blanketing a flat slate grey sea one can indeed foster morbid thoughts of futility and impending doom which no doubt inspired the denizens to develop soft and yielding, lusciously fragrant Speyside malts that are in my view among the best whiskies in the country.
T'other side in Argyll and Bute, north of Lomond and tracing the Glencoe valley into the lands and sea lochs south and west of Nevis the scenery is inspiring and as dramatic as Wagner in a thunderstorm but the whiskies are uncompromising and redolent of drinking liquid fire on a windy day while being smacked about the face with freshly harvested seaweed.
As I languish in the suffocating sweat-soaked humidity of a Thai hot season denied the opportunity to cool off in my pool or even in the nearby sea, I yearn to return to the delights of a refreshing late September autumnal day alongside Loch Linnhe after a splendid salmon luncheon in Ballachulish.
Some great fish and chips in Nairn.
Ahh, fish and chips on the coast...
Super nice pics, thanks. Scotland is super beautiful, but it rains a lot!!!
I've been as far up as Glencoe back in 2005 when I did a tour of the highlands in a minibus.
