    Gower Peninsula, Wales

Seeing as the weather has been so nice recently in the UK, and is forecast to go through the weekend, me and a few pals are jumping in a car at the weekend to go camping there.

We basically just decided yesterday to go somewhere, we decided on a beach somewhere in Wales and a quick google came up with this general area:

    Three Cliffs Bay

    Rhossili Bay

So, that'll do us, looks really nice. We've already got a camping ground sorted near Oxwich Bay, just over some cliffs from Three Cliffs Bay:

So really, just posting this to see if anyone on here is familiar with the area and has any advice on things to do and see in the general area, any pub/food places you'd recommend etc?

I'm aware it's all fairly small settlements and we're mainly just going down to sit on the beach have a bbq, drink a few beers and have a smoke etc, but if there's anything worth seeing nearby I'm sure we could take a wee trip in the car.

TIA, and I'll take me camera and put a few piccies of my own up when I get back.

I love the Gower, many good times spent there when i was younger. Just as nice as Devon or Cornwall but without the pretentious pricks who reside there.

Very nice walking area, and keep your eyes on the rocks - there are plenty of fossils and some great structural anomalies to pickle your geological brain.

Some of my childhood holidays were spent there. I'm very familiar with Oxwich bay, Rhosilli bay, mackerel fishing off tenby, bored shitless in Carmarthen & Llanelli

Yes, but be careful not to step on any coprolite.

Yeah, I'm definitely planning to do a bit of walking along the cliffs and beaches, I'm going to print off a few OS Maps from Bing Maps. Looks like some really good walking terrain there with some really scenic views.

And yeah, I'll try to avoid the Coprolite, I deffo don't want million year old dinosaur shite all over me walking boots!

Yeah I definitely will mate, I've got a camera I've hardly used since I've bought it so I'm planning to take a fair few to test it out.

You might actually want to see some of us dancing naked around a campfire though, as there will be a couple of nice looking birds coming down with us and they're bringing bikini's!

Unfortunately, they're my mate's missuses so I don't think it'd go down too well if I start leering all over 'em taking photos, but I might try to get a few sneaky ones for the private collection!

I went camping there a few years back. There is basically one pub up on the hill where everyone goes and gets twatted, and sod all else except sand dunes, nice tho.

I visit most summers but not this year yet. There is little to see other than the scenic beauty. If you give me an idea of the route through Wales that you will be taking I can make recommendations. Also, where will you be staying overnight ?

There restrictions relating to dogs on most beaches in Wales. So, I tend to visit these places in winter so the dogs are with us. Somebody else mentioned Oxwich Bay earlier. This is a very unusual place as it is privately owned but always open to the public. The owner is a dog lover and allows them there, so if the family insist on the seaside this time of year, it has to be Oxwich.

Mid Wales is gorgeous at this time of year and I live only a few miles from the Brecon Beacons. A short trip to a mountain stream is preferred by the dogs.
Why can't I make new posts?

Suits me down to the ground, we've got beer, smoke, bbq, portable music player, some massive torch things you light up for light, birds all sorted...what more can you ask for?

Nah, but tbh, that's why we're heading that way, nice bit of seclusion in amongst some nice scenery, miles of beaches - who needs bars and clubs, we'll make our own little ting 'appen.

Yeah, I was just really asking on the off chance someone here might know some hidden gems etc, but we're happy just entertaining ourselves anyway tbh.

We'll be staying just off the little lane down to Oxwich beach mate, so was just looking for any suggestions within that general area really, we're happy just having a mooch about in the day and heading back to Oxwich to sit on the beach and get on it in the evening.

We're just gonna blast in off the M4 and get to where we're staying and go from there, cheers anyway Can.

Oh, and does anyone know if there's any rules regarding how late you can stay on beaches, alcohol, bbq's, open fires etc?

This site should be of help. Personally, I would not camp in Oxwich as almost everything is prohibited for campers. You might have a lot more fun going to an accredited camping site nearby, one which has a social club.

Beautiful shots Khmen, hope you had a blast mate.

Like you said, a pub or other people is the last thing I would need somewhere like that. My mates, a cool box full of beer, some tunes, and no other kunt to piss me off for miles. Absolutely perfect.

Well, I've just got back and I have to say that was the most enjoyable weekend I've had in a long time, absolutely stunning part of the world.

I'll be honest, I ain't travelled much for holidays in the British Isles - mainly for work - but the scenery down there compares to any exotic locale I've been to anywhere in the world, and the weather was absolutely sizzling - I'm burnt to fuck, my neck's on fire and my head looks like a cherry tomato.

I've got a fair few shots of the scenery etc and I'll add them to this thread at some point in the next couple of days, or if I can string a decent photo thread together out of them I might make a new one.

Thanks Can, I didn't see your post until after I came back but I'll bookmark the link for future reference, as I will most definitely be back there at some point.

TBH mate, I thought that the beaches would be fairly restrictive but last night there were at least 6 big campfires going on up and down Oxwich Bay, a few people camping etc and nobody seemed got told to stop...It was a fair old party atmosphere really, plenty of beers and good times being had by many different groups.

It was a lot more relaxed than I'd expected, and me and my pals stayed out until about 2 in the morning drinking around a fire and lying back pissed/stoned looking at the stars.

Good times. I'll expand a bit more when I post up my photos.

Exactly mate, it was perfect, better than I expected even. Who needs bars and clubs when you've got some decent mates, a fire, a Barbie and some beer?

I'm not sure what it's like there at other times, but last night it was great and I couldn't have asked for more.
