'View First Unread' function resets itself

Why does the 'View First Unread' function reset itself after a few weeks? Is it due to an update to the forum software?

I often find on some of the slightly older posts the 'View First Unread' button will take me to the first post even though I have already read it and some of the others in the thread.

Is this something that can be fixed or do we need to install CMN as Forum Administrator?
