    Forum "hanging"

    I dont know if anyone else get's this, but the forun has a tendancy to "hang" especialy on the "Post quick reply" I get the "posting your message, please wait" and then nothing, if I "go advanced" it usually works pretty well. Same with opening topics sometimes nothing and just refresh the page and whoom it there. When it does'nt hang the forum is very quick, it's sort of all or nothing.
    I have more than the average number of arm and legs

    RC, what's your connection? I seem to remember that it's dial-up.

    I don't notice the "hanging" with my slow but reliable ADSL link. But, when I was on dial up a couple of weeks ago in Cha Am I couldn't be bothered to do much other than check my e-mail.

    The TeakDoor server <Sago Net> seems to be in Florida which is probably a long way from Nakhon Nowhere....

    Yea I did that at first, if you click "fast reply" and nothing happens, click the "go advanced" sometimes your post will actually be already there and if not just send it

    You have to remember that as soon as you click the button your browser sends off your reply in a very small packet (unless you've attached something). But, you won't get any feedback until the forum software receives the reply, redraws the page to include your reply and any other new ones and then sends it back to your browser.

    In other words: sending your reply is quick and happens right away, but showing you your reply takes more bandwidth and more time.

    I suggest click once and wait. It's not like an elevator button where clicking dozens of times actually causes the elevator to move faster and get to your floor that much quicker.

    Happens to me every day. Especially painful when it is saving my new high score on a game I have just spent 30 mins on beating Thetyim, CMN, humpty 42 or nick A!

    Does that work then, I'll have to give it a go. Anyway when I say "Hang" I mean just stopping, not doing anything, view the rest of the forum for about 10 min, go and make a cup of coffee read a book.....still nothing. No slow or anything.....nothing "Hung" same with openiong threads sometimes nothing (see abouve for defintion), hit the refresh button and its like flood gates opening loads in seconds

    IC. Well, it could be because of the caching proxy server used by your ISP. It "thinks" that the page TD is trying to send you is the same as the one in its cache, so it doesn't bother to ask for the updated page. When you hit the "reload" button the cache is refreshed and the updated page gets sent.

    That works for me.

    It's not the forum, as I've had no probs (I'm on CSLox 2048Kbps).

    I don't understand how the caching works or where. Sometimes when I look at my web cam the image is hours old, even though new ones get uploaded about every four minutes. In this case the refresh button doesn't work.

    But, people in the US report that they always see the most recent image.

    It's just with the local (Thai) ISP's that I experience these sorts of caching hangups.

    They overuse caching here as a way to save bandwidth.

    I think the old CyberInspector also uses the cache to do a fair bit of both in and out packet sniffing.

    I noticed that within the past few days the US based proxy server I was using no longer works. If you click on a prohibited URL the HTTP request never makes it to my proxy server, there's just grabs it and redirects you back to the referring site.

    The horsepower it takes to so this is huge. I'm amazed they are willing to devote the resources to it.

    But, TOR is still working fine.

    RC, yes I get exactly the same problem as you.
    It has only been like this for a few days.
    I guessed it was the school holidays and a trillion kids playing Ragnarok.

    The forum often hangs for me as well. I am on a broadband connection not dial up so I can see no reason for this. Anyone got any ideas what causes it?

    Yes, and that will overload both the caching proxy and Mr. CyberInspector.

    But, no slowdown or hanging here in Korat using MaxNet4Home, 512/256.

    If everyone says who their ISP is, maybe that would shed some light on it?

    Right, ISP, level of service and whether or not you have trouble with TD: hang, slow, etc.

    OK.

    ISP = CSLoxifo (2048kbps)
    L.o.S = OK, but they neglect to send me bills more often than not.
    TD = Works fine, as do other sites on the same server.
    Location = Soi Cowboy

    ISP = TT&T
    LoS = MaxNet for home 512/256
    Loc = Koh Samui
    TD mostly works fine, except for occassions when "we have problem with the connections to South Thailand". But then other sites fail as well.
