Phom Phet Fort in Ayutthaya is actually quite nice, It is on the riverbanks of both the Pasak River and the Chao Phraya, although it seems that all the canons have been nicked and sold for scrap already, the fort is on the south coast of Ayutthaya Island on U Thong Road, on the road just by the fort there are many Thai food stalls, across the road is what I believe to be a Muslim school so at lunch time all the little monsters go and sit around the fort, the only thing wrong with this is all the little brats dump their rubbish there and it seems that Thailand doesn't bother cleaning up there national heritage sites.
King U Thong originally ordered a dirt wall to be built, in 1549 King Mahajakapat ordered it to be rebuilt using bricks, in 1957 the Government partially restored it.
This picture is looking up into the locked watch tower.
This one is the floor of the watch tower, I think someone lives in there.
