Bangkok Post : BOT intervenes in baht movementThe Bank of Thailand has intervened in the foreign exchange market to reduce the baht's volatility, BOT governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul said on Friday.

The central bank was closely monitoring the baht's movement because of concerns over the fragile global economy, Mr Prasarn said.

The BOT had prepared a range of measures to tackle the volatility of Thai baht, he added.

The CIMB Thai Bank (CIMBT) said the Thai currency traded at 29.97 to 29.99 baht to the US dollar this morning.

At the time (and traditionally) Sterling was an overvalued currency. It was in the best interests of the establishment to let the Euro be introduced, fall, as predicted - and then decide later. Domestic politics and spin doctors took over after that.

Very wise of them it was, intelligence or luck. UK is stronger and more flexible now without euro.

Yes it would appear so. Still, long term. Not so sure. The Euro probably is the way foward. Meantime, they've avoided digging deep into British pockets to help pay the bailouts.

The UK decision not to adopt the Euro was partly political. Any government that replaces Sterling with the euro will stand to lose the next election. Also the UK economic cycle tents to be linked more to the US than any other European economy, so there would have been strains on the UK economy, causing wild fluctuations in employment as we are now seeing with, for example, Spain and Greece.

More like the restriction of their ability to print money and devalue the £.

I believe there would have to be a referendum anyway.

I wasn't asking if you thought they would get through the current problems they are having, I asked if you still believe your statement "The Euro probably is the way forward" to still be true.

Which part of the answer didn't you understand? There is no choice. So yes it's probably the right way forward. That doesn't mean I'm a 'fan' of the Euro if that's what you're getting at.
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

You said that the Euro was probably the way forward for the UK. Yes there is a choice. I don't understand why you think the way you do. I'm asking for some clarification on your point of view here.

The UK will need to adopt the Euro at some point. Not today or tomorrow that's for sure. But at some point Britain's financial future will be with Europe and it will benefit Brits to be part of it (though not now - clearly). Once the EU has got its shit together over the common currency it will go from strength to strength. The lessons learned have been many - so they (EU) will need to act on those. It will emerge a stronger union at some point (how soon I don;t know). Pehaps they'll shake the shit off their shoes and retrench as the core European states - and the others like Italy and Greece can flap around with all their stoo-pid problems. The option for Greece and Italy (maybe Spain/Portugal) to crash out of the Eurozone may not be such a bad thing. It would make the Euro look increasingly attractive - and rise in value. The UK doesn't want to be the little flapping currency on the outside with fuck all to sell to the world other than the square mile... Remind me what exactly does Britain sell to the world these days? Scotch? (Scotland), Shortbread? (Scotland) Oil and Gas? (Scotland).

Top 5 Uk exports are; Pharmaceutical and Bio-techs, Defense and Aviation Industry, Food and Drink, Communications, Petroleum and Energy related products, in that order.

Why did you put 'Scotland' in brackets after you wrote Oil and Gas?

Didn't you hear? Scotland is on its way 'from misery to hapiness today...' and they're taking THEIR oil and gas with them. It's only a matter of a couple of years now.

They best pay the rest of the UK back the money invested in exploration and research then, oh, and they best have plenty of money to buy the rights off the UK government. How many licenses will they wish to buy?
