American fascination with British Teeth

Why are the Yanks so obsessed with the state of British teeth and personal hygeine?

Why do they like to mention it so much, is it really that important? Do your teeth really have to be extra white and straight?
Do you have to walk around everywhere looking and smelling like a poof with a cheesy grin?
Cant you look and smell the way nature intended, or is that too awful to even think of?

It seems to me this is the only thing the Yanks can throw at us Brits, and it really is quite lame. I think this is some deep psychological thing going on here, maybe some kind of inferiority complex, or just plain jealously that we are actually respected throughout the world.
