Driving insurance for a Thai in the UK

My misses has now decided she wants to drive here in the UK so i phoned up my broker on Saturday afternoon to get her added to my policy, all going well at first and said there would not even be a charge to add her and they would confirm Monday morning. Just had a phone call back now saying they can't add her to the policy as she hasn't been resident in the UK for 3 years.....i was actually quite bewildered by this response but remained calm thinking it was some sort of joke as i pointed out to the woman on the phone there are tens of thousands of people driving in the UK who have not been living her for 3 years and don't have this problem obtaining insurance to drive a car and it wasn't a requirement last time i checked. This is when it got a bit heated as the dumb bitch on the phone now started stating that it was a requirement to get insurance that you had to be living in the UK for 3 years, so after a bit of pointless back and forth and realising i wasn't going to get anywhere i just hung up.

Maybe they don't like to insure foreigners because of the security threats, is it a possibility measures like these hinder would be terrorists activities ?? .What do the many students from over seas (just to give 1 example) who drive their own cars here solve this problem??

I'll be doing that as a matter of principle anyway, years policy is up in 2 months so they won't be getting my business anymore after that.

Shouldn't be a problem anyway, she has a provisional which came through the post last week and i should be able to add who i like to my policy, but anyway type of licence is irrelevent, they said she couldn't be added as not resident in the UK for 3 years.

All insurance companies should refrain from insuring Asian women as they can't drive for shit.
