Worst place in Thailand that you have been to

The worst place I have ever been to in Thailand has to be some village in Surin, this village was so crap it had a number and not a name, there was one concrete house which was pretty low end and the rest of the houses can best be described as wooden slum dwellings, most of the houses didn't have toilets so it was quite common to see the locals squating in the fields, 2 of the richer residents had a bufalo each which they kept under their shack in the evenings, they had no bottled water for sale, so I had 2 days of drinking fizzy drinks which I don't particulary like anyway, the mud roads were mud roads and there was no public transport to anywhere, for 2 days I was there I lived on 2 bags of crisps and a packet of sweets, the one shop in the village sold noodle soup but due to the lack of hygene I didn't risk that, watching them chop up food on the chopping board which was on the floor outside and shooing the dogs away each time they started licking the chopping board quite quickly put me off of the idea of eating there, so where is the worst place you have been to in Thailand?

I thnk I got married around there bout 14 years ago. I went with a young tart to her home village near Surin.
The bloody place needed a 4WD to get there. They went shopping on the farangs money and brought a pigs head, next day all the spongers and Monks came around for a long ceremony involving the pigs head and lots of string. The house started to collapse as the piles sunk further into the ground. After it was over I asked what was that all about? she said "we are married"" I thought my wife won't be happy with this! I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I can't match DD's jaunt to Surin but the worst place I've been to is the missus' home town of Somdet in Kalasin. It's not a particularly dirty, ugly or indeed particularly anything except for it's boredom quotient which is off the scale.

I guess it is not untypical of many of the towns in that area of Isaan which have grown up around a cross roads with a petrol station.
Every day I walked into town and if I was early enough I bought the only copy of the Bangkok Post that they had, if I was a bit late the other English reader would have got their before me and bought it already. I never met that other customer (was it you BKK Madness?) but he/she obviously entered into the competitive spirit as we both started getting to the shop earlier and earlier to beat the other.
There is no night life, no magical mountainous back drops that awe and inspire, no shops selling traditional Thai fabrics, no fancy restaurants that encourage you to linger over exotic meals.
There are a few shops selling noodles and I remember one place that seemed to have leg of donkey as a speciality, every morning when I went to get the paper I would pass it and without fail the remains of the donkey leg would be in the bin outside the shop, it's hoof pointing upwards to the place where good donkeys go.

There are some rice paddies but the main industry seems to be sweet potato which is harvested, churned up and spread out to be dried in the sun and then carted off to a starch factory. The stuff never seemed to dry completley and if you got behind a truck transporting the stuff your car, or you if you were on a motorcycle, would be coated in this sticky, foul smelling potato juice.

The highlight of most peoples day seems to be the arrival and departure of the daily bus to Bangkok.

The Nana Plaza! What really made me want to puke was seeing all the stupid twats crowding in the slimy slimy scene in the anglewitch or some thing. Not to mention all the aggressive katoeys lurking all around.

It's probably Butterflea's favorite place.

Their two tier price system has the largest mark-up factor of anywhere and they apply it with open hate rather than a false smile.

Actually, I quite like this town. It's much nicer than many other provincial dead end places.

Ekammi bus station - Don't you mean 'The Easthern Bus Terminal' as it is so spelt? Good place to put it don't you think? Right on the busiest road in Bangkok at a major junction. Add to that the massive building sites on either side of Soi 44 and you have, without doubt, one of the worst areas of mismanagement in the city.

Some truth to that, though I'm noticing the most annoying merchants aren't thai but indian.
Once you been here a while and know your way around it's not too bad. Beats LA any day of the week.
