Thread: My planned website

Here we go Teakdorians I think it's about time I told you about my planned website. I have been working on a website for almost 9 months. The website is mostly about travelling and a part of it is about teaching.

At the launch, probably a few months ahead, it will basically cover travelling in Thailand. It will also cover the nightlife, shopping, and places to stay. At the later stage it will cover tourist spots in the neighbouring countries such as Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Obviously the website will have a discussion forum where the posters can discuss all the above mentioned stuff.

I was inspired by Teakdoor's moderation policy so there will be no moderation on the forum as long as there ain't no severe insulting on the board.

Now the question is do you think the website will be a success? Would you guys be interested in such website and forum and join in to spice it up?

I'd appreciate your suggestions and input in this regard.

Might be worth a go! No one has ever approached a website design with this thought in mind...

macha - you need to have an angle , there are oodles of Thai travel sites - maybe you should work the muslim angle - lists of resturants with legal food - local maps with the direction of mecca etc.

^ I didn't know you're a Muslim and would want to find the direction of Mecca to offer your prayers. Good on ya mate.

actually, i think baldrick has a pretty good idea....are there any thai travel sites specifically for muslims?

^ Nah Ray people dont want to waste their precious time on Muslims and their boring ceremonies where there is no drinking and semi nude girls.

Now I dont have that much experience but by seeing this discussion forum I think you need a hell of a patience to deal with people like Smeg etc. You will also have to have a hell lot of time in hands. Do you??

Even If the Website is a success believe me it aint worth the money and most importantly time and effort. Updating the website, dealing with posters insulting eachother and trying to keep everyone happy is almost impossible.

I think you should reconsider your plan and IMHO take a good vacation with all the money you are planning to invest on a website.

I run a couple (actually three) websites, they are a lot of hardwork and I shall no doubt be giving one of them up in the near future.

While I wish you the best of luck, I would caution that making money out of websites is not easy - if it was everyone would be doing it.
(Making money I mean. - That seemingly everyone is running websites is no evidence that you can make money out them).

Oh and one way to really raise your work load is to have a forum.

Unless its brining business in to your website I'd skip the forum and concentrate on content.

^ Actually, the initial plan was to make it for pure commercial purposes. Later on I dropped the idea and changed my plan and also the contents of the website. Initially, the plan was to focus more on teaching (a friend of mine working with an International school was insisting) but I changed my mind keeping in view the high influx of tourists into Thailand on yearly basis. Also seeing the information provided by travelling websites on the internet, I decided to come up with something that would cover more than travelling such as places to stay, must see things/places, shopping, eating, drinking, nightlife and place that has not yet been discovered by most travellers.

Now my main purpose to have this website launched is to provide information to those who want to explore Thailand. I won't concentrate on cash inflow for at least two - three years.

Muhajir = immigrant !!! We are immigrants to this land of polytheism are we not?

i think the general concensus is that its all been done before and you need to either do something slightly different to those existing sites to appeal to another possible audience, or make your site considerably better content-wise than those already out there.

i guess you have to ask yourself what do you know more about than others already running similar sites?

True Slim. I think, I have got much more to offer than the existing websites. Like I said the website will give information on the places that has not yet been discovered, upcoming events in LOS, full info about places to stay, places to eat, nightlife (all aspects) etc.

Me and a couple of helpers are working on the contents day n night. They are the one who travelled extensively in Thailand and now they're stationed in different parts of Thailand. They're also trying to cover things that has not been covered by others.
