Thai State Primary Schools - Insurance?

We've just enrolled the lad in the local Primary school. All good.

Today, whilst visiting the school to do some paperwork they asked us for 220 bht for insurance.

Apparently every child pays this annually and it's meant to provide some minimum cover both in and out of school.

I've never come across this before so I asked for some information as to the level of cover and the name of the insurance company.

Got nothing useful back from the teacher but the other kids told the wife that "Yes, they paid it".

So, paid it and got a receipt.

I'm not bothered in the slightest about the payment but I've never heard of such a system before.

Any of you folks had this?

Yeah it exists, its like 5,000 baht coverage or something. Hope you get better information, as it will be tonight before I can speak with the wife and clarify.

Its meant to cover small accidental injuries at the school.

OK cool. Thanks for that AO. Good to know it's legit.
