Military Coup - how many time has it been for you?

This will be the third time I have been through a coup in Thailand. The first one in 1991, then 1992 and now this one. So far, I'm happy to say this coup is going the same way as the 1990 one, i.e. not much going on. Hope it stays this way.

Then again, having gone through more than a decade of civil war, this is rather like a teddy bears' tea-party

BTW - if you are a pilot, all is god round my way so feel free to fly your planes to our new airport if you have troubles parking at the old gaff

It might change in the coming few days, if pro-taxsin military got involved in a counter coup. Hopefully not.

This is my first coup, all excited about it

Number 4 the first was 78 or 79 Kriangsak Chohoman or something like that. I came up from Samui on the train, and there were tanks in the streets. Hell I thought it was military day. The second Chatchai, the Third Suchinda and his gang and now number 4. But its like my little buddy in Samui used to say "Whats to worry you vote we have coups", life goes on.

The last 3, but I was in Pattaya each time so it really didn't affect us apart from all the blank bits in the Bangkok Post.

Not sure if it's 4. You lose count of these things. Two coups in the early 80's I think. 1980 (?) I was in Don Meung Airport when Gen Prem was driving in a tank convey from the airport to Dusit to oust some coup plotters (long time ago and perhaps I'm mixing my memories). Then there was the April fools coup, was that 1985 ?. Then Gen Kraponyu's self seeking coup in 1991.

Yes it was 4 though I got mixed up as I thought the 1985 coup was "April Fools"

April 1, 1981: An attempted coup, led by General Sant Chipatima, deputy commander-in-chief of the Army, is suppressed by forces loyal to the government.

Sept 9, 1985: A coup is attempted by Colonel Manoon Roopkachorn; a number of senior officers are later arrested.

Feb 23, 1991: The government of General Chatichai is ousted in a bloodless military coup. Power is assumed by a National Peacekeeping Council, led by General Sunthorn Kongsompong.

Sept 19, 2006: The armed forces take power and dismiss Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's caretaker government while Thaksin and several other ministers are overseas. The military revoke the constitution and promise a swift return to democracy after political reforms.
