    Partial Lunar Eclipse

It's hardly an unusual event but it will be better than Thai telly on Thusday evening.

SPACE.com -- Partial Lunar Eclipse Set for Sept. 7

If the sky is as clear as tonight, it will be well worth a glance.

(Actually, I am just casting round for a subject for my most auspicious 100th post)

Why do they hold it so late at night? I'll never be able to stay awake that long. Maybe I'll set the alarm.

I do not believe that from the Earth the Moon appears to be almost exactly the same size as the Sun by accident. This is one of the few beliefs that I hold. I suspect that the real reason for this phenomena has major importance but I'm buggered if I'm going to expend effort thinking about it - That's the type of person I am - give me a birthday present wrapped-up and come back a year later to see it in the same condition. It's not that I'm ungrateful, I just can't be bothered. If you have opted to give me something that you have decided to hide then that my friend is up to you.

I have another belief that the Universe evolves as we discover, or believe that we discover. This is hard to explain, but an example would be that the planet Mars did not exist until human brains had formed an acceptable pattern from random noise which was bothering them....If I ever meet-up with any of you and we end-up drinking beer I will no doubt tell you about it more detail.

Danbo, existentialist extraordinaire. The question you need to ask is that if we humans didn't discover the planet mars, would it be there for the animals to look at? In one sense you can argue that existence is merely a state of mind, but then given that most animal species have life cycles that depend on the moon, which in turn depends on the earth, which in turn depends on the sun, and our orbit depends on other planets, etc., etc., then to argue that things don't exist in themselves without human perception is invalid. If it was the case, then species before humans would never have evolved, and it's pretty clear that dinosaurs weren't intelligent enough to grasp the concept of planetary orbits.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.

That was my second day in Thailand, ever. Saw it in Nakhon Sawan in a temple on top of a hill. Great show.

I saw the elcipse in the outback in Oz.

Was at some sort of rave in the flinders ranges. Fucking wicked it was.

I rolled an eclipse size spliff that had the last of my pollen (1.8th) and the rest packed with good old fashioned weed. Burned for an hour it did. Battered many people. I don't remember fuck all about it.

I saw the total solar eclipse in the UK back in whenever it was (the last one). After a very uncomfortable night in the car, we stood by the sea somewhere in south Devon and watched the clouds roll over. Although you couldn't actually see the eclipse much, it was pretty weird when everything went black at 11.00 in the morning and the birds stopped singing.

A similar affect can be achieved by pouring vodka on your cornflakes at breakfast.

BTW Wallace, I keep meaning to come back at you with some startling insightful arguments on the nature of reality....but I've just poured some vodka on my cornflakes so I doubt that it will be today....

Has anyone actually ever tried that?

Vodka or beer on your cornflakes?
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    Pedantic ****

    The rave was wicked.

Can't remember fuck all about the exlipse though.

I do remember amazing a thousand or so people by leaping off the top of a rather large sand dune right to the bottom. A good 15 metres or so, and surviving intact and on my feet.

I sprinkled coke on my cornflakes once.

Wasn't the best taste but certainly picked me up.

I can remember people crying at the rave eclipse.

I thought that it was just down to the acid though.

    Actually it was muesli.

I thought cornflakes had more comedy value though.
