Cool I want an orange bucket for my birthday; how about you?

yesterday we dropped off yet another of those orange plastic buckets of life's necessities to the temple; didn't open it to see what was further down, but thought the small bottle of shampoo was a nice touch, and that 60 watt lightbulb will come in handy.

Anyway, the concept kept me occupied during proceedings, and I've decided i want an orange bucket for my birthday, and am working on a list of what can fit into such an 8 litre container.

    So far:
    1125ml bottle Laphroaig single malt
mobile phone gadget with huge sound/music memory capability
high-spec mini-notebook to replace my ageing Dell laptop
still lots of room for small items and I'll work on adding to the list
suggestions welcome, and what would you like in your orange bucket? This could be the start of a new tradition.

Be careful that the Missus doesnt get hand on it before you, otherwise it may end up with the Monks. Of course you would be responsible for them being drunk, surfing Porn sites on the Internet and calling Porn Phone Number with that nice phone. All cost will go into your account.

    Happy Birthday then

Found this, sounds about right?: "Giving food and other daily supplies is considered an act of merit making for Buddhists who in turn will expect to receive good Karma either in this life or the hereafter"

but as for the buckets - have often wondered if some are opened at all, or just recycled back onto the shelf of the temple shop if you bought it from there, ie you have simply made a cash donation in effect - bigger temples like Wat Chalong have their own shops to buy from (also a good source of fireworks for scaring dogs away).

Tesco Lotus sell them too; their 'monks medical kit' is good value and bought one for myself, handy supply of first aid things for the bathroom. No condoms though, and what I first thought was a tampon (!) was one of those mint nose-sniffer things.

The actual 'orange plastic bucket' must be a recent 'tradition' - cane/wicker in pre-plastic days? HAppy to be corrected on this . . . .

will add that Nok said it would be 'big sin' if I go ahead and donate the Chang Draught someone left here . . . had ideas of puting six cans in the bottom of each bucket then covering with shampoo and lightbulbs. Bad karma?

Thanks for that genghis61, I have been to plenty of temples and seen this many times, I had wondered about this for a while and always forget to ask, I agree with what you say about them being recyclyed and resold.

Your explanation is very much appreciated, good luck with filling your bucket )

Maybe a good idea would be some rope, a muzzle, a gag and a bag of Pedigree Chum, viagra, a dose of rabies vaccine (for the dog), and some flea tablets!

MediaCorp TV Forum - Thai monk collapses during sex with a dog

Curiously, they never said if the "pup" was his?

Oh yes, almost forgot...a bottle of "sunlight"

"It is not clear whether he faces criminal charges, or what the abbot intends to do about the matter." Maybe get the dogs phone number?
