Cyclone Ava came ashore on friday - forecast as just a cat 1 , but intensified very quickly as it got close to the coast with winds up to 190 kph - blew lots of sh1t over - houses around here are mostly bamboo and wood huts - so a bit fcuked for many people - I was in a cement 2 story house , but we still lost a bit of the roof and had a lot of water inside - though tiles , so not much of a big deal - the power went off , and is still off , but the fridge kept the beers cold and I had a couple of bottles of rum for interspersed shots to watch mother nature get cranky

Is it for new water pipes? electricity cables?
No - it is to lay high-speed, fibre-optic cables, to provide fast internet and TV channel service in the city.
This sounds like a great idea to make the city more attractive to businesses. If you look at this photo, there are no overhead power cables or telephone cables - everything was buried underground when the city was built, (no spider's web of ugly cables that you see in Thailand).

I seen them doing exactly the same thing in Bali using Javanese laborers .
It's friggin hard work but at least they had a job.

That is pretty smart and it makes the city look pretty or at least prettier than having cables all over the place. Many times in Thailand I've wanted to take a pic, but hard to take a nice pic when there are a zillion black wires all over the place.
