AMSTERDAM’S prostitutes are begging the Tartan Army to help cheer THEM up ahead of Saturday’s crucial World Cup match.

The hookers’ trade union is fronting a bizarre campaign to get visiting Scotland football fans to show “respect” to hard-up Dutch vice girls.

Up to 15,000 supporters are expected to invade the city for the game against Holland at the Amsterdam ArenA.

But union spokeswoman Metje Blaak, 60, insisted they should stay sober — so the girls can make more cash.

She said: “I would just ask them to be respectful towards our prostitutes.

“Things are difficult enough for Amsterdam’s prostitutes.

“Dutch girls are facing competition from girls coming here from Eastern Europe. They are also coming from the Dominican Republic and Russia.

“People in Amsterdam say the Scots are good people. I’ve seen them in town before, lifting their kilts and having a good time.”

She added: “I think Scottish men would be better if they don’t drink too much before visiting the girls. After all, if you drink too much, you can’t have sex — that would be a waste of money.”

Metje — who worked as a prostitute for 25 years — represents Red Thread, the union for most of Amsterdam’s 800 sex workers.

It takes part in discussions with local government, just like representatives for truck drivers or medical workers.

Women legally sell themselves sitting in the shop windows and sex cabins which pepper the city’s infamous red light district.

But groups of men visiting the area can often turn rowdy, with police having to step in.

At weekends, cops on horseback even patrol the narrow lanes to maintain order.

The city council has also tried to restrict the number of prostitutes, fearing that organised crime and people traffickers may be behind them.

And Metje, now working as a photographer, revealed the credit crunch is also having a serious impact on the sex industry.

She said: “We are finding a lot of men do not have the money.”
