It's hard to feel any sympathy. Drug mule in fight for life.

I'd be pretty annoyed about the diverted flight, I'd almost argue to let her be, so what if she dies.

A WOMAN was fighting for her life last night after suffering a drug overdose when heroin packed in condoms seeped into her stomach.
She is believed to have swallowed the drugs in Vietnam and borded a flight to Sydney, the NT News reports.

Her husband is also suspected of smuggling heroin in his stomach.

The Sydney-bound plane was diverted to Alice Springs Airport early yesterday after the 45-year-old woman collapsed on board.

Australia Federal Police officers were at the town's hospital last night interviewing the woman's husband.

St John’s ambulance deputy operations manager Peter Monks said paramedics were called to an emergency at the airport at 6.23am and arrived as the Air Vietnam Boeing 777 landed 20 minutes later.

He said the woman was unconscious onboard.

"She was stabilised by emergency paramedics and taken to hospital," Mr Monks said.

The woman's condition got worse after she arrived at hospital and she is believed to have undergone surgery to remove the condoms yesterday afternoon.

Hospital spokeswoman Chelsea Rogers said: "She remains in a serious but stable condition."

The Australian Federal Police said it was still investigating and could not comment.

How desperate or greedy must these foolish people be and to attempt such a stunt.....?????????

The ironic thing is these mules get relatively small money and to risk their lives.

If she dies then it is another life lost and to the drug scourge and if she survives she can expect to spend a long time in jail.

Not the first and will not be the last.

I have little sympathy for folks who knowingly put their lives in danger, for drug-related issues. They cause others a lot of hassle. Better they fade of the planet in some private place, or jail.

Really, I mean - to swallow condoms containing drugs - without counting the cost - it's ludicrous to think that there may not be a potential problem.

I have pulled some dumb stunts in my life, but never as dumb as that.
I say that if you put your life in jeoparody doing it then if you fuckup and you die, so what.
But if you make it then you should be left alone,,

shit that don't sound right either.

    OK..........

No I think maybe just leave em alone and if she lives then she has to go to jail for life,
or if she dies then she don't have to go to jail,
but there will be no money spent on an operation or medical care for her.

How much of a drug can a human body carry? It's always sounded strange to me when you hear stories of mules with condoms splitting inside them as 1. You've gotta be a fookin loony to fill your body up with something that could potentially kill you if it breaks and 2. Economically it just sounds like a crap plan.

Not at all, but I will agree that to the bleeding hearts, 'forced' could equally mean she was driven to it by poverty, lack of education, or even that she was depressed at the loss of her goldfish and didn't really consider the implications of filling her body with an illegal drug that could kill others if not herself.

Still, my wild guess is that she did it for money, and not because someone is holding her family to ransom.

Nonsense, nobody is "forced" by poverty and lack of education, but it would make a difference if it was a Corby-type operation, i.e. someone with full knowledge of the implications doing it on their own accord, or someone who was duped into being a mule and tempted by what for them would be a lot of money.

You may find the courts in Australia would view the two differently as well. If indeed "forced", or rather coerced, still guilty, but sympathy - absolutely!

The article does not mention nationality, nor any background info, btw.

Theres a brilliant show on cable TV called " Banged Up Abroad."

They interview muppets who have been busted smuggling drugs into a foreign country, have been caught, have served there time and are now free.

Every one has stated they where doing it to make money, everything simplistic about that as its all about the money.

When they were in court of course they said they where forced to do but of course you say this when looking at hard time in the Bangkok Hilton.

OH yes one more thing, they also said they were trafficking for there own use but had planned to sell a small part of it only.

    From the Sydney Police Website...
A man suspected of international drug trafficking has been discharged from the Alice Springs Hospital and charged with drug smuggling by federal police.
The 50-year-old man and his 45-year-old wife were travelling on a Vietnam Airlines flight to Sydney when their plane was diverted to Alice Springs after the woman collapsed.
The woman remains in a critical condition at Alice Springs hospital.
The man is due to appear in Alice Springs court today charged with drug smuggling.
The Australian Federal Police say they're investigating the possibility she was carrying illegal drugs.

^ Mules are in it for the $$$.

They get less than the dealers, but they get paid.

    Same, same.

Why think they are less-bad because they are getting less of a cut.

    Mules, dealers, basically same, same.

    mules are often poor women.

hardly on the economic cutting edge.

no tears from me but the mule is merely a pawn.

I would imagine that most are in it for 'easy money', but to claim that they all are, or that no one is ever made to smuggle drugs against their own free will is just stupid.

My cousin's in lock up and has been for the last 8 years and for being a mule.

He also was on the train on squad and for the Australian Rugby Union side and played for my state side (New South Wales) against Argentina.

Threw everything away and because he had a coke habit. Yes he was coerced into doing this foolish thing not by any single person but because of his drug habit.

Many high profile people have also been arrested because of this case, which in fact was the largest cocaine bust in Oz history at that time and they all share many traits. Easy money, greed and or for the sorry victims.........guaranteed hits!
