What do you like about living in Bangkok?

I'm specifically asking about Bangkok, because I may move there in the future. I spent about three months total living there on and off over the last three years.

I often hear that guys go there for Thai girls. I'm a girl so wouldn't be going there for the girls, so that one you can skip on.

There seems to be a lot of negativity on this board regarding Thai culture, and Thailand in general. Is there anything that you like about living in Bangkok? Compared to back home or in general? Are there many on this board in Bangkok?

Lifestyle, cost of living, availability of amenitities 24/7, friendliness of people (compared to the UK), the 'random' factor - although this can sometimes be frustrating, I actually find it makes life far more interesting. Hmmm, can think of anything else right now, but I am far happier here than I would be back in the UK or any other part of Thailand.

As a family man with 3 kids had to escape the place so I moved into the country side.

As a young farang girl in Bangkok, GO FOR IT GIRL and make sure you get an apartment close to the BTS.

Other than that have a great time and the worlds your oyster.

    Total nonsense.

I would wager you have been here for less than 3-years and can can speak less thai than an Isaani buffalo...

I only ever lived in BKK for a week but managed Nothanburi, which is like a suberb, for nearly a month. If you embrace the culture, smile and they smile back, and have a 'smattering' of Thai lingo it can be really quite nice. Apart from a lower cost of living, if you live near the skytrain you can easily and cheaply, get to lots of nice shops with just about everything. There are lots of places to go and things to see.

For me it was just a bit too noisy and, in some places, a bit smelly. A bit like some parts of London that I don't go to, anymore. As a Teacher, you are less likely to be easily intimidated, but I was a few times and I found that a bit scary.

For all that Bangkok is (and you have given good advice Loomy), I think I have outgrown Bangkok and now when I go back there it does intimidate me whereupon it did not before and when I was a resident there.

If I was 30 years old again it would be the place for me but Bangkok takes my breath away these days.

You'll be cooped up in some dingy box-room studio apartment on Sukhumvit while surviving on street food that even my dog refuses to eat.

You'll have no real independence because you'll rely on the monorail, taxis, motorcycle taxis or buses (providing you are insane enough to even consider boarding one) to get around. One day your motorcycle taxi driver will be so pissed up on Lao Khao he'll veer in front of a large truck and you'll shit your pants. You'll vow never to use them again while laughing with your mates in the pub about your near death experience but you will use them again because you're as dumb as the drivers themselves.

At the weekend you'll go to RCA or Thong Lor and drink in places where the World's most repulsive and dispicable people gather - namely hi-so Thais. You'll be overcharged for drinks and they will call you 'animal' or 'birdshit' behind your back but you won't mind because you are having such a 'great time'. You'll end up going home with a young Thai man who doesn't know the meaning of 'orgasm', 'hard work' or 'responsibility'.

When you go shopping you will be annoyed because absolutely anything with a brand name, especially clothes, will be far more expensive than back home.
At the local markets you'll curse your shapely hips and full bosom as the dainty 7 stone Thai woman says 'big size no hab'.

When needing a break from the putrid air and relentless noise you'll wish for a quiet refuge of greenery or culture. You'll be hard pushed to find one.
The Wild West frontier town of Poipet on the Cambodian border provides little respite every 15 days as you rush there on a visa run because you're not here on a proper visa.
Mortals you defy the Gods, I sentence you to travel among unknown stars, until you find the Kingdom of Hades, your bodies will stay as lifeless as stone.

I'll take your wager and laugh in your face. Nice baited attempt at inciting me, but it will take more than your poor trolling to raise me. So, how much is this wager of yours?

Tell you what FP, clearly these guys are pent up. LOL. Shitty New Years for these, and I use the term loosely, gentlemen.

They know FA about me and love to pounce on new meat, sadly, they know jack about me. I love their trolling and I enjoy shooting clay pigeons. I think TD is gonna be my new shooting range for a while.

Aww come on FP, you can do better than that. You know the odds are in your favour. Let's say a months salary? Reckon BKKAndrew can match it? Fuck it, I'll throw in my Xmas bonus. LMFAO.

You really shouldn't take things so personally, it was merely a critique of life in Bangkok.

    Oh, it wasn't about filch.

Then I have to admit you managed to surprise me with your shopping habits:

Possibly because of your comment and quote directly to my post here.

Thanks for enlightening me a little about Tud, now I understand his bitterness. I'd like to send him an upbeat MP3 song to lift his spirits. Stevie Wonder - Dontcha Worry About a Thing. LOL.

Tuddy give me your email address, or your Soulseek account username so I can help you out. You need some audio therapy ASAP. As for going home with a young Thai man, well, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I don't judge. But I am sorry he didn't service you quite the way you expected with your morales and standards of respect.

Again, without wanting to be presumptious, I will be. That was supposed to be aimed at me?

My nerves are not touched, nor my nether regions by a Thai man. I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment by a Thai male freelancer. I wish you luck in getting the "respect", "service", and whatever else it is you demanded for your couple of thousand baht - assuming you had that much.

I have lived mostly in BKK for about 4 years now and from where I am from Miami, BKK has some of the same characteristics,.big city, never stops, high crime rate, warm climate (but a bit warmer here in BKK at times), but in general I find the people here in BKK are friendlier.
I just miss the (clean) sea coast being at your doorstep like Miami has and BKK doesn’t.

Come on,.move over here. Give it a try,………you might enjoy yourself. Just be careful.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
