AIS Customer Service and stupid falang

For some reason my phone hasn't been going to my voice mail. Instead it actually goes to another phone which apparently has the same number as mine! Some poor bloke has been getting all my calls. My daughter rang my phone and spoke to him and he confirmed the same number.

So finding out that another person has the same number I went off to the AIS office in Nong Khai. Took the daughter (bilingual) so as to avoid any translation problems. Well, the contempt, arrogance and rudeness that the people in the shop showed me ended in raised voices and the word "kwai" being liberally shouted.

Quite simply, they said there is no way that this could happen and they were not going to investigate it and would in fact just spend the rest of the day squeezing zits and trying to find split ends. They just kept insisting that all the people dialling my number had in fact all dialled the number incorrectly and miraculously all dialled the same incorrect number.

AIS's answer to this problem - don't use my voice mail.

    Useless effing kwais.

(Tex & Scamp - I'll be PM-ing you my new non-AIS number next month)

A typical experience of Thai 'customer service'.

It's all you'll ever get from these ignorant and arrogant people.

Don't expect anything less than abysmal service and you won't get disappointed.

A friend of my wife works there. She said it would be a great job if it were not for all the stupid farangs that call the customer service line and complain.

She is dumb as an anvil!

A friend of mine had the same problem.
A woman in Phitsanulok had recently been issued the same number as him.

We phoned the other woman and explained that she would be charged for all my friends calls from now on.
    She bought another SIM.

happy or sad, good or bad, black or white with no possibility of anything in between.

Same old same old reaction from the uneducated. It gets better further up the food chain fortunately.

Most companies have a "hotline" for english speaking customers but in 95% of cases when you call it this is what you get:

"Hi I have a problem / question about__________"

    "Arai na?"

    Then you repeat question.

    "Arai na"

    "Arai na"

Then you end up just hanging up and giving up.

Worse when they tell you press 9 for Engrish, then put you on to a Thai that freezes and hangs up as soon as you start talking.

Well sad to hear about yoer problems with aIS, but, on the other side of the coin, here in Chiang Mai, they were fucking great, probably cause they wanted the money..but all the same..
I got a mobile to get an internet conection, my Thai is not that great especially the technical stuff, and initially they couldn't translate all the settings I had to change on the phone to get the connection.
They told me they would get an English speaker the next day to help me set up the phone!
AND.. true to their word they did exactly that, they talked me through everything to set up the account..couldn't fault them. Imagine a Thai speaking only Thai trying to get fucking BT to do that!
    Speak as you find.

I have had the same mobile number for about 10 years now and have never had a major problem with AIS or their service.

I guess trouble follows some people around like a bad smell!

At the first sign of a ploplem I fake going into one, which has helped remove the obstruction more than once...does go wrong though, like in the bank last week when she said sure she's known me many years but my signature's 'wrong'...ended up signing the same paper 17 times against their file copy, but by then she was already well committed to saving face with by her original decision.

Agreed, AIS is probably the best of the Thai services, apart from the massage!
Never a problem, in fact, I even managed to owe them money!
I was on an international call, and when I finally got cut, I owed them 7 baht!
My balance when I checked was -7 baht!

I gave up with AIS, had a normal account that they would bill every month for about 15 years, I paid an extra deposit quite a few years ago so I could use it for international calls and use it abroad, then a year or so ago one of their idiots phoned me, I was busy at the time so just gave the phone to my girlfriend to deal with them, turns out that if i dumped the international call ability etc I would only have to pay a 300baht per month line rental and my calls would only be 1 baht per minute, fokwitt girlfriend agreed to it, I phoned them straight back and told them I didn't want this deal, they said it would take 3 months to change it back to my original deal, I asked them to send me my foking deposit back, they never foking did, bunch of useless tossers.

But English is an international language and loads of non-Thai speaking foreigners will use it in Thailand to communicate, hence the need for English speaking personnel.

Your comparison using an English company as an example is surprising as they most definitely have Arabic, Urdu and all the other major languages spoken in England catered for.

Quite why you think they should have speakers of minor and uncommon languages such as Thai on hand is beyond me.

One of my friends has exactly the same problem. Her phone will ring out & get diverted to some Thai woman's phone. The Thai woman gets very shirty at getting all of these calls from farangs. I now know to put the phone down if her phone starts to divert, but unfortunately, she's our adoptions manager, and I know the same thing has happened to people phoning about dogs. They get this Thai woman telling them that she has nothing to do with dogs & to stop phoning her.

I'm pleased to hear that others have had the same problem with duplicate numbers. Over the years I've always had bills that appeared higher than what they should be; I've put it down to drunken calls during football matches but now I'm thinking otherwise.

I'm in Bangkok today so might visit one of their Telewiz places and see what they say. Or I might just get pissed. I wonder which one will be more productive.

People with a shitty attitude normally get shitty help. Although occasionally, you might just come across someone having a bad day.
