It has been a very interesting first day here on TD, many friendly greetings as reply to my first post in the Newbie Forum, but I also managed to be called a "TV ass licker" and a "TV retard" by two newcomers themselves to TD, with accompanying red dots whatever they mean .

Tv has been my first Forum and as such, many things that properly seems obvious to old hands in the Internet Forum game is still new to me, so it takes time to figure out all the different functions on TD, but one thing is crystal clear browsing through TD, it is a much more open Forum, and I am looking forward to reading the posts reflecting the freedom of expression that you have here on TD.

As a newcomer on TD you naturally get a little bit intimidated by the very linguistic elegant old hand posters, and the fact that you are on shaking ground as a newbie, but I guess you cant learn to swim without getting wet, so here goes, 1. day - 1. thread, hallelujah, I am now officially no longer in the protective bosom of the Newbie Forum.

There are excellent threads here. I love the house-bldg and gardening and kitchen ones. Excellent pics. Usually good info and feedback, but with the regular lot of louts. You build up teflon coating after awhile. Fortunately, there are several sage characters here, and the mods usually let us fight our own battles.

Nice with the forum tips, I am really pleasantly surprised to see so many of the more interesting posters from that other place, it seemed like there suddenly was a whole flurry of people leaving.

I am still a relative newcomer here on TD but I admire the wit ,the qualified advice, and the excellent points of view that comes on the posts. The member banter is great and sometimes a flak jacket is not enough, but everyone gives as good as they get. as far as my dear old Mother is concerned I think it is Gin Tonic, but bless her she is getting on so why not and my Father has unfortunately been dead for years so I imagine he is no Chanel No.5 by now.

Any news of Scandinavian bank failures? Someone sent me a slide show featuring Norway's village funds being crushed by their investments in shady SDO funds. Is that true? I am actually interested how Britain is getting fired up at Iceland's govt (not Scandi, but fek, it's a winter wonderland, too) coz three of its banks failed and many British community groups have basically lost their cash in them. Mr Brown wants Iceland to pay them back. C'mon, where's Reykjavik gonna get that kinda cash? Selling ice to the eskimos?

I know a major Danish insurance company has been in trouble and a few small Banks, what happens in Norway I don't know except they have money enough in the Norwegian Central Bank to bail out whoever might need it if they choose to do so, remember Jet, Norway is member of OPEC, they are swimming in it (money I mean).

We do include Iceland in the Scandinavian brotherhood, but they seem to have turned to Russia lately, they have developed into a sort of offshore tax heaven for dubious Russian moneys, and I saw today in the news that they have asked Russia for a substantial loan so maybe that's how they are going to try to pay the British community groups back although I think it is unlikely they will do so, maybe they will send a couple of million tons Cod instead . My dear old Mother told me about a young couple of friends from Iceland studying in Denmark, they where normally getting 28.000 Dk. Pr. month (study aid), when they changed their Icelandic kroner to Danish Kr., but now they where getting less than half that due to the depreciation of the Icelandic Krone so they would properly have to end their studies and return to Iceland, and that is a bit sad because all this economic turmoil is not their fault.

HI I'm mediaman. I have only read a few posts, but I've already learnt that it is not a good move to "suck up", better to slag off Marmite instead. Thanks for the sound advice Jet!
