Lie upon lie upon lie..oh no Mr. Duddrey

Recently, the local TV has been showing adverts for SAFE food, I am not sure if it is promoted as organic, or just pesticide free. you may have seen them, they show the family buying food stamped with the green "Q" logo and promote it as healthy? (i.e. the Thai woman complains about the price but her friend explains some crap about it having the "Q" label..hence safe and value for money..

Posted this earlier on the TV forum..why I do not know, as if the Mods there could eat some poisoned fruit I would have been happy, but there are a few decent posters there...
Well, it is as safe a guarantee as buying a ticket for the Titanic.

    I will explain.

We have been growing Lam Yai for the past 9 years or so, and I (as everyone near me knows- they see the Farang with the spray, they see the weeds turn yellow and die) I use Roundup, 1515 fertilizer and some quite NASTY insecticide, and have done over the past 6 years due to another insect problem we had on some other trees.

Well, two days ago, the local propaganda tannoy system was calling the faithful to prayer, and when the missus went, she was issued a CERTIFICATE from the local Amphur, with the green Q, valid for two years stating the fruit was grown in accordance with GAP policy!

In the 6 years we have grown Lam Yai, not one person has checked what is put on the fruit, what is put on the soil...in fact, I could go out tonight and spray every tree with Anthrax and Botulism but hold a CERTIFICATE that shows the Thai Quality "Q" emblem...disgrace!

So, buyer beware, as usual it's the same same but different shit packaged up again.

Trust NOTHING.. (by the way, even my wife thinks this is a disgrace, not just me!)

As usual, lip service and lies!

^ Excellent post and green on it's way. It might be better in a lighter colour, though. Quite difficult to read.

You never know...thet think they pay a bit more they have safe food...how wrong they can be!
I mentioned I only use Roundup, it's pretty safe once it hits the ground, it poisons nothing after contact...the Thais, they use any shit that burns the weeds, and they all got the GREEN Q TOO!
I never asked for this Cert., I don't even plan to show it, my son (he's 7 read it and said it wasd a load of shit) wanted to tear it up!
I will keep it for posterity, and to display what an "organic" guy I am!

Cheers, will have a go, what I can't understand is why it changed colour in the first place!

How can you post a pic "NOT VIA A WEBSITE" from my PC?

^ Yes, the colour's changed. You need to upload the pic into TD's (or another like Photobucket's) gallery. There's an excellent thread by KlongMaster in Newbies detailing how to use the TD gallery

Not a Thai problem or even a new one !

Many years ago I was servicing a Cat tractor on a Potato farm in the Nile delta.
On the yard were some drums of some chemical with skull and cross bones signs on them ( made in Germany but I cant remember the name - it was 30 years ago FFS !!) and the label clearly said NOT TO BE APPLIED OR STORED WITHIN 50 METERS OF GROWING OR STORED CROPS !!!!

Asked the farmer what is this then ?
Reply was "kills the insects while the potatoes are growing "

But ? But ? But? what about the danger ?
No problem we wash them in the canal before we sell them !

But? But ? you store them in the same building as the chemical !

No problem ! I have a letter from the mayor saying that everything is ok !

The mayor was the owner of the tractor I was servicing - he was in his eighties- half blind - pissed most of the time and signed anything that was put in front of him ( for a fee)

I never bought Egyptian new potatoes (very sought after in UK) from that time onwards
    Same same !!

I would have thought that the term "Thai Quality" was not a complementary one.

The word "quality" and the word "Thai" can never really fit well together in a sentence, unless it is used negatively e.g. "The quality of the Thai scam was first class"
It cannot be used in the normal context, e.g. "The Thai product was of good "quality", this can never occur, it is not possible.

How dare you! Whenever we're shopping, be it for motosai, clothing, electrics or food, mrs is under strict instructions to ignore anything from China because Thai stuff is far superior...scores farang points too.

Good thread. I was banging on in another thread about how good the pomelos are here. Really tasty. In a conversation the other day the wife mentioned that they were paying the pickers 20 bht per hour. I'm sure, you'd agree that that's pretty poor wages. Rest assured however,

"If you put pharmacy inside get 25 bht."

Errr, what "pharmacy" inside? I asked. Still waiting for the answer.
