I genuinely feel sorry for any westerner who is in love with the way things happen here and who can't stand the thought of leaving. They think that they are so special and lucky to have found a way to live in Thailand, and they can't understand why everyone else doesn't feel the same way. I, for one, don't live in Thailand because I love it. Similarly, I don't love my gym, but I go there almost every day, because it serves a long-term purpose of improving my overall quality of life. Living in Thailand is doing the same, not now, but in the future, through both the memories of having lived somewhere so bizarre and primitive, and the resulting reassurance that England is a great place to live. I don't hate it, but I know where I prefer and where I want to live in future. I was never sure about that until now.

I like to discuss and joke about the downsides of life in Thailand with others by using forums. I'm not the only one who likes to do this. However, the bigot thaiophiles can't tolerate this, and try to suppress it. Once these simpletons can accept that the forum has room for everyone, and also lose their thick, short-sighted "You should live only where you like the most. If you don't like it, you know where the airport is" attitude, the endless arguments might stop.

Interesting question. Do I want to fly back to the UK in the autumn? Not particularly, the only time I want to arrive there is the beginning of the summer, to allow a few months to acclimatise after three years in the tropics. But that doesn't mean I have to stay in Thailand until then.
