Ayutthaya sounds better to me, isn't Udon full of old people wearing nappies and waiting to die?

    Tony's Place.

The food's not as good as Roc's though, but the service is just as bad.

they do a mean mediocre cheese burger and they have a pool table. they also seem to handle domestic squabbles with a bit more discretion. roc, would you and men kay (cozin? 30 posts, merits no mention) be willing to host the pissup at tony's place?

    Hi,

in Ayutthaya, after 13 years in this city, I experienced the ups and downs, some here next:
    - they don't shoot foreigners (as long they behave, I do)
    - cops don't put you in jail when you swear at them (unless they notice you're under influence, I don't swear - not in front of cops that is, I forgot last time I was sober, but don't remember waking up behind bars)
    - the place is 60 Km North of Bkk, the proximity is on the limit from the big Mango where people remember how to smile
    - also far enough for the booze to be near half price compared to the capital's extortioneous bills
    - clean air, no bad smell on the streets (the river washes all the stink to Bkk)
    - the girls are fine, and even better if your wallet's fine too (well there are good and bad ones everywhere, so if you have a thing for the bad ones, you can meet some here, they'll find you)
    - although the sea is 2 1/2 hour away (Chonburi that is, I don't consider oilspilled Pattaya having a saltwater seaside) it's just like the thing you'd expect (or wish) to find when driving out of the city
    - areas with barely dressed young ladies are to find, yet you need to know where they are (the ladies and the areas)
    - Tony's closes the watering hole at 11:00 PM, whereas at Roc's, if the cops are in their flexible mood (as they've been for the past 3 months) you could end up cleaning pipes 'til 4-5 o'clock in the morning, and wake up on Tony's stairs for a miserable breakfast
    - and if not at Roc's, there are places open 'til 5-6 o'clock in the morning, and after that it's towards the next bars that open at that time (here again, it depends on the cops, they really have been calm for the past 3-4 months, is there a storm coming?)
    - like Ken mentionned, a lot to see too, plan a few days, more and you play with the dangereous approach to get hoocked and stay for a longer undefined time

Enough written, there are plenty good reason to visit, and come back.

Oh, and Obsidian, I have an occupied life, not much time to spend on forums debating about my post inputs, and surely not with members that don't even know me (so this one might look like a provocation to debate with you, but it will be the only words you'll get from me on this - and it's coZun (read cousin), not cozin).

    My latest tittle:
'The self declared mayor of the expats communtity of Ayutthaya'

I believe in humble modesty, I trust you noticed.

    The Surge, a.k.a coZun.

Yeah, let's schedule a Teakdoor gathering in Ayutthaya. It is close to Bangers and on the train line from Isan. The price of a night out is surprisingly cheap, and there are several activities to do the next morning while nursing hangovers.

I can hook people up with accommodations. Once a date has been set, I can post info on places to stay. There are plenty of affordable places to crash, just let me know what your price range is and I can point you in the right direction.

I can set up some "alternative" boat rides for people who really want to get off the tourist route -- visit some of the more remote klongs (canal) that Lonely Planet will never write about. Also, If you like bike rides, I can take you to see some very unusual temples. None of them on the tourist routes.

There is also a red light district in Ayutthaya for Teakdoor posters that need their tubes cleaned. I can send you all off in this direction if you want. I can also take you to the "Bar-that-can't be-named". Side trips could include trips to the Aranyik village where knives and swords are made.

Anyway, Ayutthaya could be worthwhile for a gathering or pissup. Plan on spending a few days if you want to do some alternative tours. Even Dirty Dog and Marmite like this city, so it can't be bad.

    Ken

Seems to be no more mention of the Udon Thani one, if people want to see old drunk farangs wearing nappies they got loads of old age pensioner homes in the UK or just visit your local hospital to have a laugh as the nurse changes their nappy

Hell, Roc is even willing to do a free BBQ, things don't get better than that

I am game for an Ayutthaya gathering. The city can be fun if you time it right. At least it is not in bangers.
