A dogfish of some type, I think...

And I could well be wrong, but I think this may be a clutch of developing dogfish eggs.

A rabbit fish, or called a mouse fish in Norway.

    Or 'Havmus' in Norwegian.

'Mus' is mouse, and also a rude term in Norwegian for a woman's private parts.

These are only found in deep water and kind of hover about using huge pectoral fins.

They move fast and it's difficult to get a decent view in just one picture...

Very interesting Mendy looks like the Feldermaus /Bat can see why the mouse name was given, is it fished, battered or just tickled?

With some many bottom feeders stirring elsewhere you are a breath of fish air, good work keep em coming.

I sometimes wonder what a fish thinks when a dirty great ROV comes along, breaking the silence and darkness. It must be like walking a dog in a field at night when a UFO comes in to land, like on ET.

Some just watch, but others scarper.

I'm also starting to wonder if the fish deliberately stir up the sediment to cover their departure, like soldiers laying a smoke screen?

The American Elephant Fish (Callorhinchus callorynchus), commonly referred to as the cockfish, belongs to the family Callorhinchidae, a unique group of cartilaginous fishes.

(But of course, you knew that.)

^ Ha, the American Elephant Fish, also known as the Lesser Cockfish due it's diminutive size.

I'll keep a lookout for the British Elephant Fish, also known as the Greater Cockfish.

But no cockfish today, just a couple of boring ling.

I'm sure that these must be different species of ling... same same, but different.

    Or maybe male and female?

Forty odd years ago, my 'O' Level Geology teacher always labelled diagrams of ammonites with 'beady eye', which his pupils all dutifully copied without thinking. No-one thought to question how it was even possible to know that ammonites had beady eyes, since soft parts don't get preserved as fossils. All through my 'A' Level, and Geology degree, I labelled diagrams of ammonites with 'beady eye' without questioning. It was only much later in life that I realised Mr Walmsley, my Geology teacher, was just having a joke. He was a great teacher and sparked my interest in geology. He even let us drink beer in a pub on a field trip to Skye, while underage.

In fact, if it wasn't for Mr Walmseley (RIP), I probably wouldn't be where I am now!

    Yeah, thanks...

^ Nice Nid, a classic case of mutualism!

The colours of your tropical fish seem to be so much brighter than of those in the North Sea.

Not strictly fish (although I bet there's a few pla duuk in that water), but my favourite example for mutualism that can be seen every day in Isaan... (not my photo)

Anyway, a small family of fan worms.

They often colonise the tops of subsea pipelines, the concrete coating giving a firm substrate for them to gain a purchase on, and also I guess any filter feeder gains an advantage from living elevated from the seabed?

Every time a trawl net is dragged along a pipeline, entire colonies are wiped out.

^ It could happen... I'm not proud.

    How could I not?

I just hope it arrives before Christmas!

Anyway, this picture may at first seem pretty boring.

But if you look closely you can see two anemones busy filter feeding away just behind the laser, on the seabed.

As the ROV passed over, they both closed up. I didn't realise that anemones reacted so strongly to external stimuli. I don't know if they can see, but the ROV will emit all manner of electrical and hydraulic noise, not to mention sound pulses pinging away from the various survey sensors.

There is also a pressure wave pushed in front of the ROV... so maybe they felt that?

^ It found me, to be honest.

It really makes me wonder about these internet Cookies and stuff.

You should see some of the suggestions I get from Lazada. I wish I'd never bought Anna that sexy bunny costume.

It's amazing and also a bit fucked up I think. How our internet shopping etc is tracked. Even just clicking on something innocently ( no.not porn) gets you a barrage of unsolicited phone calls
It does my head in and I find it a bit fucking rude. They find me a bit fucking rude to when I tell em to fuck right of and stop wasting my fucking time

^ It's great until your teenage daughter borrows your phone to buy something on Lazada, and gets bombarded with pictures of skantily clad Asian girls in crotchless knickers.

    The looks she gives me...

Twice in recent weeks Lazada has suggested things for which I have never searched but about which the CWMS and I have chatted. Coincidence? Spooky.

    Very fishy indeed.

^ I think my problem runs a little deeper than that.

A stripy fish... not sure that I've ever seen one before.

Some kind of wrasse maybe? I couldn't find it on the internet.
