Brit tourist on dream trip to Bali mistook deadly dengue fever for the flu

Emma Cox, 27, holidayed in Gili, Bali, for 10 days before coming down with muscle and joint pain, a full-body rash and a severe headache. She hadn't planned to return home to Nine Elms, south west London, in the UK, until August but was forced to book an early flight on May 17 - due to her symptoms.

After calling 111 with flu-like symptoms, she was told to go straight to A&E - where she was taken into quarantine by doctors. Emma was told she had contracted
dengue virus after being bitten by a mosquito - with tourists at risk when visiting parts of Africa, Asia, South America and the Pacific Islands.

But experts have warned the fever is becoming more prevalent in parts of Europe - like Croatia, Portugal and France. Emma spent an hour in hospital and had to have blood tests - saying she felt "horrendous" - and is looking to get vaccinated before going travelling again.

Emma, a content creator, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said: "The virus gave me a rash that spread right across my body - I felt horrendous, and thought it wasn't ever going to go away. I almost felt like the doctors didn't know what exactly to do about it - they saw it as a contagious, tropical disease.

But just five days later, she started feeling unwell - initially blaming it on the air conditioning. "In my room, the glass on the window was cracked and there was a big hole in it," she said. "It sounds so stupid, but I couldn't see it - because it was covered by a curtain. But every night while I was staying there, I'd wake up, covered in bites.

Brit punch kills Russian at Pattaya pool villa party

Paramedics attempt to save Russian tourist Igor Yasilyev after he was punched and struck his head on the ground at a Pattaya pool villa party. Yasilyev later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.PATTAYA, Thailand – A pool villa party in Pattaya turned violent early on May 27, resulting in the death of a Russian man. The incident occurred at 3 a.m. at a villa in Viewpoint Village, Soi Chaiyapruek 1, in Jomtien.
Emergency responders and police arrived at the scene to find Igor Yasilyev, a 36-year-old Russian tourist, unconscious and bleeding from a severe head injury. Immediate first aid, including CPR, was administered before he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

In the ensuing chaos, the assailant fled the scene. Witnesses, along with Ms. Piyada, attempted to assist Yasilyev and called for emergency services once they had recovered from the initial shock. He later died at the hospital of severe traumatic head injuries.
Ms. Piyada Barasan, 22, a friend of the injured man, reported that Yasilyev and the assailant had met for the first time that evening. While drinking together, they got into a heated argument, which escalated when the foreign assailant, whose nationality was initially unknown, punched Yasilyev. The force of the blow caused Yasilyev to fall and strike his head on the floor.
Pattaya police immediately initiated a manhunt, broadcasting a description of the suspect. Surveillance footage and witness statements were collected to aid in tracking down the fugitive. By 1 p.m., police identified the suspect as Ricki Aaron Williams, a 35-year-old British national. The Pattaya Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for Williams on charges of “causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death.”

Williams was located and arrested at a guesthouse in Na Jomtien, Sattahip District, approximately 10 kilometres from the incident site. He was taken into custody and brought to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning.
Ms. Mod, 28, William’s Thai wife recounted that she had been invited to go to the party with her husband where she stayed a while and had to leave for work. She stated that around 3 a.m. she received a message from him saying he wanted to go home. On the way to the villa, she found him walking in the street and picked him up.

Ms. Mod alleged that during the party, Yasilyev had made inappropriate advances towards her daughter, escalating to sexual harassment. Enraged by this behaviour, Williams admitted to punching Yasilyev but claimed he did not anticipate the fatal outcome. He remains in custody awaiting legal proceedings.

I mean look at it here. You just have to google Brit English teacher.

Mark Frost, the serial pedophile who sought to hide in Spain | Spain | EL PAIS English
Mark Frost, the serial pedophile who sought to hide in Spain

Spanish law prevents further prosecution of the retired English teacher who made his home in the Mediterranean before being extradited to the UK

Mark Frost, 76, thought he had found the perfect hideout in Santa Pola, in Spain’s Mediterranean province of Alicante. Like many other criminals, he believed that a pensioner from the UK would not attract attention in this coastal town of 36,000 inhabitants where registered foreigners, including a large number of Brits, make up 21% of the population. He imagined he would be seen as just another tourist and that he would be safe from the long arm of the law, looking to nail him for decades of child sex abuse. But in 2016, after an international police operation, the Spanish Civil Guard arrested Frost and Spain handed him over to the UK. Since then, more crimes have come to light, but according to Spanish legislation, the statute of limitations has expired for these crimes and although the law has recently been reformed to extend the time in which legal proceedings can be brought to bear, it cannot be applied retroactively.

The horrific crimes committed by the former English teacher feature elements specific to pedophilia: the abuse of authority and exploitation of vulnerable individuals, the victim’s fear of reporting the crime, and the consequent difficulty proving the abuse, not to mention impunity.
Although Frost is currently languishing in a UK prison, any prosecution for fresh crimes coming to light from his past requires authorization from Spain, where he was arrested. It is up to Spain’s central criminal court, the Audiencia Nacional, to greenlight his extradition for each charge. This is what happened five years ago after his arrest in Santa Pola, when the original extradition was authorized. In 2017 he was sentenced by a British judge to 13 life sentences, and to serve a minimum of 16 years.. During his trial, Frost admitted to 45 offenses against minors over a 25-year period, but as reported by The Guardian, only 11 of his victims were identified: two British victims assaulted in Worcestershire in the 1980s and 1990s, according to the BBC, and nine Thai children attacked between 2009 and 2012. As it turned out, this was only the tip of the iceberg.

Believing that Frost’s criminal activity would be more extensive, the National Crime Agency (NCA) made a public appeal to encourage victims to come forward. The NCA was sure that many had remained silent about crimes committed against them during Frost’s years as a teacher between the 1970s and 1990s and also as a Boy Scout leader. As EL PAÍS’ own investigation into pedophilia in the Catholic Church has shown, when a case of this kind is reported, more victims are given the confidence to come forward.
On August 19, 2022, a Westminster court issued a new international arrest warrant for Frost. The court asked Spain to “extend” the statute of limitations so that Frost could face prosecution for a further 24 offenses of child rape, child abuse and child pornography. According to the UK, between 1983 and 1991, when the suspect was a teacher at George Mitchell School in Leyton in east London, he sexually abused seven other children. The crimes were committed at school, on camping trips and at Frost’s home. The boys were between nine and 16 years old.
However, in a decision dated May 24 of this year, the Audiencia Nacional declined to approve the prosecution of Frost for these crimes, concluding that the 1973 Penal Code in force when the crimes were committed gave them a statute of limitations of a maximum of 15 years in the most serious cases. The time span in which they could have been prosecuted has therefore expired, according to court’s resolution, which is supported by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In the UK, there is no such statute of limitations for these offenses.

    Formerly Andrew John Tracey

Frost’s capture in 2016 brought him to justice for at least some of his crimes and addressed the pain of a number of his victims, according to investigators. These victims were not only from the United Kingdom, where he was accused of abusing his own adopted son, but also from Thailand, where police arrested him in 2013 after a boy reported sexual assault. According to Spain’s Civil Guard, Frost filmed himself while abusing children. In those images, he would record himself “making the heart symbol with his hands.” After his arrest in Thailand, Frost was released on bail and fled the country.
Subsequently, Frost sold his properties in the UK and changed his name from Andrew John Tracey to Mark Frost. He then moved to Santa Pola, aiming to go unnoticed, but his bid for anonymity was short-lived. When sentencing him in London in 2017, Judge Mark Lucraft stressed that Frost “has an ongoing obsession” with sexually abusing children and would continue to pose a “risk” to minors: “Your conduct is horrific and deeply disturbing,” Lucraft told Frost. EL PAÍS has contacted Frost’s defense, which declined to comment.

This idiot was convinced somebody here must work with one who was supposedly caught about a month ago.

    He is seriously stupid.

Seems to have a hang up about Brits and education in general. I guess it didn't work out for him.

Actually to be fair I grew up watching mostly British humour. There was only 3 channels back then . Some of it was a bit corny( Benny hill) most of it was humorous as fuck. You couldn't get away with the innuendo , implied racism.etc I always saw it as harmless piss taking. Love thy neighbour for example. Eddy booth living next door to a black family I'm 60 and still remember all those TV shows in black.and white mind. Didn't even have a fooking remote control . Had to walk all the way across the room just to change the channel. For folks sake

I think a number of tv shows like love thy neighbour, it ain’t half hot mum and Alf Garnett series have quietly gone missing.
It will protect the woke from exposure to overt racism, which was quite deliberately aimed at the limited BNP types, making them look foolish.

Fishy story. Moral is just don’t be drunk on holidays.

Tourist's terrifying ordeal after being 'robbed at knifepoint'

A backpacker has detailed the terrifying moment he was allegedly "robbed at knifepoint" while on holiday in Vietnam, just one day after arriving in the country as part of his three month trip.
Tom Anderson had planned to travel around Asia, starting in Bangkok and then Thailand before the 27-year-old arrived in Vietnam on 21 December. But tragedy struck the next day following a night out with friends when he was on his way back to his hostel.
Anderson claims he spotted a fellow traveller on the street who appeared drunk, so he decided to walk her home. Minutes after dropping the woman off, he claims he was attacked by two "big" strangers wearing "masks and sunglasses".

"I was on my way back to the hostel and went down a dark alleyway, and these men came up to me and told me to give them my cash," Anderson from the UK said. "I could feel the tip of the knife in my back and thought ‘what the f**k’. I was really scared".

"I only had 50,000 dong on me (approx A$5.70) so they told me to get my card out and took me to an ATM where forced me to make several withdrawals until my card was finally declined."

    Authorities 'couldn't help'

The British man said he went to the police to report the incident but as he had been drinking and couldn’t remember the exact address of the ATM or street he’d gone down, "they couldn’t help me" he said.

Anderson, who also holds US citizenship, visited the UK embassy in Vietnam on multiple occasions, but due to the holidays, claims he has not been able to speak to anyone yet.

He’s now focusing on trying to reach his banks in Britain to report the incident and hopefully be able to get his money back. According to Tom, the victims came away with around A$380 to $560 (£200 to £300).
"I went to the police afterwards but they couldn’t help me. didn’t know which street it was or if there were cameras," he explained.
"I also went to the UK embassy, but the security guard told me it was closed. There isn’t much I can do to get my cash back but I’m trying to figure out if my insurance will cover it.

"For now, I’m relying on friends and strangers to help by taking out cash and then I send them the money through my online bank, as my cards don’t work.
"Thinking back now, it was really terrifying, though I don’t feel scared walking around after what happened because I was stupid and walking alone late at night
