Affected me profoundly. I saw Nirvana before they were famous many times as they played many local clubs and dives, back then they were not popular and totally unknown. The day he died it broke on MTV news and the held it live, many of my friend got together stunned and numb and mostly silent. Someone mentioned that there was a memorial to him at the Seattle Center fountain. A bunch of us went down there, still a glum memory.

I was on a boat in the North Sea when Princess Diana died. During the same trip a helicopter also went down in the Norne Field killing all onboard, which had a much greater impact on me to be honest.

In fact the death of Diana had virtually no impact, but more than the death of Michael Jackson.

I was in a caravan kitchenette in Fontainbleau when JFK was assassinated. Well, when the news of his death was broadcast on the radio anyway. I remember because of the shock on my parent's faces and the threat of a nuclear war.

I was in bed with my girlfriend when we heard of Princess Diana's death, again on the radio. I took said girlfriend to London to lay flowers in Hyde Park in remembrance, recall it quite well because of how easy it was to park that day, close to Dorchester Hotel.

Only vaguely recall Michael Jackson's death. Heard it on the TV but can't remember where I was, or who I was with, at the time.

Cronkite fighting back the tears there.

Reminds me of Huw Edwards, which I posted earlier, when the Queen died.

I'm not a royalist and I doubt Huw or Walter were especially enamoured with either of those who they reported on, but I think the emotions come from your memories or hopes that have been taken from you after these people have gone.

Or I could be talking bollocks again .

What do you remember from WW2 and the following years?

I'm sure the forum would love to know (I would).

I was in either kindergarten or first grade when JFK was shot. The first I knew of it was my cousin phoned me and she was crying. Then, like AO said, all the cartoons were replaced by news and JFK being wheeled around by horse drawn carriage.

When Diana died, I was in Japan watching TV. My husband came running into the room all excited shouting “Diana’s dead! Diana’s dead,” then ran back to his office. I sat on the sofa stunned that my friend Diana was dead (husband knew her, too) and then wondering how he would know if she died. Husband comes running back in and shouts, “she was with Dodi in a car crash.” My pea brain starts trying to figure out who this Dodi is with my friend when she died…then the penny dropped…Princess Diana. It was a relief.

MJ death didn’t make the cut. I have no idea when I heard.

Wasn't alive when JFK died, but I always hear from my mom where she was and how she reacted.

I don't really remember where I was, but I remember crying when MJ died. He was my first crush when I was a teenager. I also knew all of his songs by heart. Around the time of his death and before, there was a big controversy on whether he was a kiddie fiddler, and I never believed it.

I don't remember where I was when Princess Di died, but it really impacted me. I was pissed off at the paparazzi and felt really bad for her kids that she left behind.

I do remember where I was when the twin towers were hit and collapsed. I was in teacher's college, and we all watched it on the screen in the main school foyer in utter shock.

JFK was well before my time.

I was a teenager when Diana died. I remember we were on holiday abroad and came back to the news.

MJ had a long and public downfall. By the time he died I was mid 20s and it was hardly a suprise.

    Yeah, another one, MM,

I was at work and remember saying there's no way 2 planes crash into the same tower.

Unless you're Dan Air in the 80s, maybe.

    Tidbit.

Remember when Justin Timberlake was the biggest twat in the world. Maybe 2005-ish. Pharrell and the rest of the N.E.R.D. production team did all his album and he was the world's biggest popstar.

That album was actually supposed to go to MJ, but just before recording started his management team had him pull out of it.

    Sliding door moment.

I remember very well. I was here at this house where I am now in Mae Jo. A friend called and told me to turn on the tv. For some reason, I had no tv, but I did have a computer on dial-up. The frustration waiting for the news to slowly update. Finally, jumped in my car and drove to Chiang Mai and watched it on the news at the friend’s house.
