How is your local air quality?

Having invested in an extra air purifier not needed so far this season, but the swidden burning in Golden Triangle, Burma and Laos will no doubt visit as last year.

Chez Rubba brekkie today 29 Feb here 60 miles n of c rai, My low tech gizmo was c700 baht off Shopee or Lazada, can be hand held outside or dispaly stand, powere by c cable same as my phone, the temp is accurate o far, if anyone intereted I'll earch my purchae once eye better

HCHO is the molecular formula for formaldehyde, also known as methanal. Formaldehyde is a colorless, pungent gas with a characteristic odor. It is the simplest of the aldehydes and is used in many chemical manufacturing processes

TVOC (volatile organic compounds) levels can be measured in milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3), parts per million (ppm), or parts per billion (ppb).

The concentration of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere is currently nearly 412 ppm and rising. This is a 47% increase since the beginning of the Industrial Age, when the concentration was near 280 ppm.

Indoor concentrations of carbon dioxide are always higher than outdoor levels due to lack of ventilation and high insulation. The UK government says that over 1500 ppm indicates poor ventilation. ASHRAE says that under 1000 ppm indicates good indoor air quality.

According to Quora, 600 ppm is considered the limit for acceptable levels. Between 600 and 1000 ppm, people begin to complain of “stuffiness” and odors. Between 1000 and 2500 ppm, drowsiness starts to occur. Between 2500 and 5000 ppm you start to see adverse health effects.

As of 2pm, our PM2.5 is 61. My wife is downstairs in her AC room with our mutts. PM 2.5 in that room is 27. I am outdoors in my shop and likely getting lung cancer at twice the speed of my wife.

Usually hovers in the 50s, but sometimes gets much worse. Now, on weekends, I don't pay much attention to it and just go about my life as normal- a still workout, don't bother with a mask (unless sick) and try to get out the small condo. The work week presents the challenge of us not being able to let the children play outside. I get that it is for their own health and safety and support it; I just feel bad that they don't the have the opportunity to burn of energy and engage in free play. LOS really needs to start doing something meaningful about the air quality.

I’ve never thought much about CO2 building up with a closed house. Normally, in the early morning, I open windows and turn on the kitchen exhaust fan to bring in fresh air for a few minutes before it gets hot outside. It raises the indoor PM 2.5 level a small amount, then back to normal. Now I’m wondering how long it take for the CO2 to build back up.

Maybe one of those meters is in order.

Here you go,many similar devices on Lazada, Taobao, Ali express ,Amazon, I avoid Temu master spammers and all on android as endless data mining ads etc. etc

nb I am unqualified to comment on the accuracy of this or any mensuration instruments.
My 3 Xiaomi Air purifiers also have a read out for 2.5 levels cot 3-5.5k plus filters.

You can calibrate using local aqi known data here zoomable

Beijing Air Pollution: Real-time Air Quality Index

Note Thai hospital rooftop level maters may be skewed by incineration, many vehicles deliveries etc, cholls set in own frounds may be a better benchmark, of course the reality is it is the air we personally reath at work rest and play that is relevant to your health.I don't need a meter to recall the literally eye watering traffic in Bangkok.

Good luck everyone I think next 2 months will be as bad as last year esp if higher temps as forecast Luckily I hope to visit Alps and Atlantic coasts during the peak.

I suffered in worse than that when I lived in Beijing... probably why I developed pneumonia and asthma after three years.. nasty.

The AQI is pretty much always extremely low here where I live, with the exception of the smoke from the wildfires last year.
    AQI - 42 Ottawa

Man our air quality went to shit in basically 1 day. Outside had been about 25 to 40 on pm2.5 which is pretty much the norm. High pressure and high temps allowed the smoke to come over the mountains from CM into our valley and yesterday by 2pm PM2.5 was 128. Just awful. Wife retreated to downstairs family room area with our dogs in AC. I relocated upstairs to my office. Indoor PM2.5 was 18 with AC on.

Sadly today looks to be much of the same. High Temps and high pressure. I checked PM2.5 in CM and it showed over 200 in numerous areas.

Maybe time to enclose my pool bar area.

I hear ya MK. Just crap and the heat doesn't help. Just looked at my Pm2.5 on my weather station. 87 to start the day but that's because it's cool. That will probably double by 2pm.

I saw those bloody Mary’s of yours on the other thread. Made me go out and buy some tomato juice to make my own. Sadly, no chance to drink one this morning since I will be driving down to Lamphun shortly.

    Tomorrow!

Pretty good here in Eastern Washington. Don't miss the smoke in Northern Thailand one bit...... Such a beautiful place there until the fires get lit in the mountains.
