AirBnB (I think?), a bit of shopping upon arrival for sausages, eggs, bacon and bread for a big breakfast in the morning and a meal out in town/a takeaway in the evening.

Otherwise, you're in an overpriced hotel - breakfast not included - and paying 15 to 20 quid each to eat out every time plus drinks.

The UK is just too expensive for that caper.

It was like an AirBnB but I actually booked it on Agoda. And you are correct, sort out a decent breakfast - kebab and chipper pics coming soon.

Anyway, after my breakfast butty I went to book my travel to the West Coast.

Train from Aberdeen to Inverness was 19 quid - 860 baht

Bus from Inverness to Fort William was 13 quid - 590 baht

Bust from FW to Kinlochleven was 6.5 quid - 295 baht.

17.45 or 1,745 baht. not bad.

Ran a few errands then met my Auntie and Uncle to go and visit my Grandfather, Grandmother and Father's new headstone.

On the way back we had a surprise stop at my Great Auntie Moira's flat. That was brilliant, I honestly had no idea she was still alive. Turned out I'd just missed her 90th birthday.

Still sharp as a tack and fit as a fiddle, she offered me a drink then gave me a highball half full of whisky.

She was actually born in China originally and there's been some write-ups about her story, being captured and held for years by the Japanese in various POW camps, starting from when she was 9 years old.

I took some pics of her flat (next post from phone)

I didn't have much time but I wish I could have stayed and drank with her all day.

I was already tipsy when I left anyway.

Those pods look quite impressive, Dirk. Was just looking on a map as to where in the world is Kinlochleven..and you are near Ben Nevis and Glencoe, super cool. I have been to both of those places at one time. Super impressive you met a great Auntie who you didn't know was alive and she survived POW camps since she was nine.
Still drinks too at 90? Impressive. Stay warm!

I have a mate who literally says broon sas the first time I had no idea what he meant. And he puts it on near every thing. Eg: lasagna, meatloaf, shepards pie, as well as sausages, eggs, and bacon.

This talk of accents reminds me of this scene from "Hot Fuzz". (Btw I could understand both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost 'coz they spoke in RP accent. The old farmer is the one who played Walder Frey in Game of Thrones.)

I do the same with a full English (obviously) and a smidgen with shepherds pie for a bit of a tang (sometimes even in the stock), but lasagne?!??! I'd love to see him do the same in Rome- he'd be chased out of the restaurant. Although, thinking about it, it could work with the cheese cos I always put brown sauce on cheese on toast!

I'm sure we've all got friends like these though.

A girl I know puts mayonnaise with everything: breakfasts, roast dinners, whatever. You name it, she'll mayo it.

An old friend won't eat any "foreign shit." He came to Thailand with me once and wanted beans with every meal, but then stopped eating beans because Ayam "weren't the same as at home," so he was reduced to plates of chips every night.

An ex-work colleague only ate white food. Refused to eat any greens (unsurprisingly she was Scottish

).

Another ex-work colleague grew up on his mum's sugary masala tea (they were Indian). He couldn't drink tea or coffee without at least seven teaspoons of sugar.

And then there's my mum who sees any food as an enemy that needs to be killed. Again. And again just to be sure.

Brown sauce is quite innocent compared to marmite. It's a condiment that's quite tangy and slightly spicy (not a million miles away from Worcestershire sauce but thicker). Essential with a cooked breakfast.

She still drinks like a champion. Large pours too. She calls them 'Jim nips' in honour to her late husband.
