Maybe she was working at the reserve ?

I didn't have chalkboards in all of highschool or the latter half of elementary school.

When did they stop using chalkboards?

The significant change to whiteboards came around 1994-1995 when it became obvious that chalk dust affected nearby computers. Over the next decade, chalkboards made their way out of schools and businesses, and whiteboards replaced them.

York, Durham, and Peel tend to have more whiteboards or better, as they have newer buildings than Toronto. Toronto TDSB, however, still have many chalkboard. Lower socioeconomic neighborhood schools tend to have mostly chalkboard & older technology & 20 year old chairs and desks. I can assure you that some of these schools can be used as a movie set for 1970s without much change.

I initially thought it was an obvious discrimination, but it's not exactly so.....

These equipment upgrades have to come out of each school's budget, instead of the board budget. Lower economic neighborhood schools actually get a bit more budget. However, these schools choose to spend the money on things like breakfast program for kids & supplementing field trip fees for kids.

The cleaner/wiper appears to be nothing more than a single tissue, in the photo.

The Canadian educational system funding seems to be lacking, somewhat. Which is surprising to hear as it's churned out the intellectual superpowers of MM, BS, RS and YD.

Depends on the age of the school, but generally most classes have a whiteboard and an overhead projector in this city. Some classes have both a whiteboard in the front and a chalkboard on the side. This wasn't really a classroom per se. It is a sensory room where special needs kids go when they need to throw things around the room or take a break from regular class. I shouldn't have said he was teaching the class, he was telling me and another teacher about the history while drawing on the blackboard of his own will. In this room there is also a stationary bike, a trampoline, and other activities. My office was located in here when I am at this school, and I was saying hi to the student and being schooled at the same time. Coolest kid with major anger management issues.

lol.. no he was talking about residential schools, and the graves that were found from the past in relation to residential schools. I didn't notice until after I looked at the pic, he put a tie on the orange shirt.. haha. Classy young man and extremely artsy.

    ^

When I joined the Forces, we were issued with what was called a 'Housewife', a basic sewing kit and we had to do all of our own kit maintenance. Had it for many years even after leaving. Incidentally, a Royal Navy expression though like all such also used in the Royal Marines, if you were given time off during the normal working day it was called 'taking a Make and Mend', the original purpose and expectation was to look after your kit. For Royal Marines it meant a run ashore and going on the piss.

    From Google.

Decent selection, the mooli looks ok, along with the butternut squash. Great thing about our part of the world, never any shortage of seasonal vegetables.
