    A British or American accent?

Apologies. Snubs and I have just been arguing.

Most people say the cut glass of the home counties voice.

    Americans are uncouth.

I like to consider myself fairly intelligent and very widely read....I've never heard that British expression before. I assume RP means Retarded Pronunciation, right?

Cut glass probably refers to the posh glassware in Home Counties homes. Not molded glassware.

Are we talking Estuary English here?

By far the loviest language on the planet.

Afrikaans I consider the least pleasant.

Canadian and American sound the same although some would argue not.

    Invernesians.

FOR years, the people of Inverness have revelled in the proud boast that they speak the best English on the planet. Their clear and melodious pronunciation of the language has been applauded by linguistic experts and dialect experts across the globe.

They sound like West Country English speakers. Or at least they did when I was there. Maybe things have changed since then.

Indeed. I had a Scott from that area as my advanced political science professor. Beautiful accent . I think many attended his lectures just to listen to the guy speak.

I believe the reasoning is that they tend to pronounce every letter by the spelling.

    Rubber bumpers.

I haven't been following your argument with snubs, Hal, so I don't really understand what you are referring to in this part of your post: "Most people say the cut glass of the home counties voice."

BTW, is this thread one you started yourself or is it one created by the mods using one of your posts from another thread?

It was me when I was pissed.

It should obviously read the cut glass home counties voice.

For those who are not familiar, google gives me this

characterized by precise and careful enunciation.
    "a cut-glass accent"

I would say Sophie Ellis Bextor is a perfect example

    She's gorgeous

That Graham Norton however needs a slap, reminds me of what KW would sound like as he hits the 38th floor of his 50m2 condo.
