That's the biggest problem with it. Compare it with a small city like Hamburg which at a quarter of population has six mass transit lines and all of them are longer than those in Bangkok compared to the three in Bangkok.Originally Posted by danbo
And they should hurry up to build some kind of train to the new airport.
^ Be fair Fabian. London and Hamburg have had a bit of a head start.
True, but Bangkok could have had something like the sky train at least 20 years ago.
Though my main point meant to be that such a big city need a lot more lines. Just look what happened to the Taksin extension.
i collect skytrain tickets, would you like to see a couple? of course you would, what a silly question to have asked.
sadly the subway don't issue tickets, well they didn't the last time i traversed from Patpong to Asoke.
PS. be sure to avoid the over-zealous stripclub touts who try to lure you in with the prospect of seeing a ping-pong or dart show. i had hoped to see a demonstration by the chinese state ping-pong champions but in the event was bitterly disappointed.

They have that on the underground system? Damn! I must get down there.Originally Posted by Harry
To respond to Fabian. Could BKK have realistically justified a Skytrain system 20 years ago and run it at a price that other than the tourists and wealthiest Thais could afford?
Hard to imagine life without the skytrain. Patpong, Nana, Soi Cowboy, close enough to Soi 33 and subway connection to get to Ratchada. Everything a sexpat could ever want.
Well, hang on, what about a stop next to Immigration?
That'd be cool!
^ the skytrain appears to be less busy than when i ws there last, you don't think CS scared them all away during his recent stayover do you? *pity, great pity*
That's what a station looks like 1 minute after the train has departed Harry. I thought you'd would have known that!Originally Posted by Harry
I use the BTS and MRT 4 times a day - a bit of a hassle of a journey getting to work and back but without it I don't think it would be possible.
I always find the MRT to be virtually deserted outside of peak times - I guess it doesn't go to enough places and some locals choose to spend 2 hrs on a bus instead (ie: to save about 10B - how pointless it that!)
I agree about the escalators - an up and a down would seem to make more sense.
They could do with getting rid of the fucking moronic whislting guards as well - god those guys bug me - they should be culled...
How could I possibly know that Poolie, think about it for a moment.Originally Posted by poolcleaner
I arrive at the platform, my cologne wafts gently across the tracks & the gals on the otter side suddenly become aroused. I wait impatiently in the midday sun licking an ice-cream. I board the next train along with an assortment to Thai high society & sweaty farangs, all of whom look down their noses at me (it's the blue trainers you know). The train then departs and after travelling for 1 minute up/down the line, just how would it be possible for me to look back & see what you claim to be a platform a full 1 minute after the train had departed. *thinks theory of relativity*
Clever you may be Smarty but the picture is not from the platform you are standing on.Originally Posted by Harry
It's the otter side where one can see a train pull in to the station and after a minute or so pull out again.
ps...no eating on the platform Harry, that's prolly why everyone was looking down at you!
(I thought you would have known that!)
But isn't it hellishly crowded at peak hour, especially about 8.15am, and especially if you are only three stops out from Suk.Originally Posted by colourful-era
I wonder why they designed it to be so grim for the commuter..(the MRT)
I mean too bright , noisy beeping when the doors close, nowhere to sit at the stations and stupid fuckers with big sticks walking up and down the platform whilst you're waiting..
how about some pictures etc...
I dont see diddly on the subway. Before I enter I sort of just go into this state of " I am going to get there in 20 minutes underground in BKK" trance. From the entrance to the exit is bliss, I ride off peak.
Its OK AO, there is nothing to see
whatever all the moaners are moaning about, both the Skytrain and the MRT subway are great. Well built and run, much less hassle than travelling on the roads, not expensive either
whilst not extensive enough, hopefully that will slowly change
