The skytrain has opened Bangkok up without question. A boon to all.
Is this service that runs fom wotsit to Mo Chit just a prelude to a bigger system? I think that it has to be. What is your experince of the Sky Train?

Absolutely. I can remember the traffic on Sukhumvit before they started building - and a lot more people have cars now. God alone knows what the journey times would be like if it wasn't there.
Tiring, MH almost never lets me sit down as the seats seem to be reserved for smart ass Thai kids. It's cheap as chips for Westerners but expensive enough such that the local native riff-raff can't yet afford it. It's great for the poor sodding tourists who used to shiver with fear in anticipation of having to haggle with a tuk-tuk or taxi driver. It's clean & efficient (yeah, so were the gas chambers at Auschwitz) I go most places by sky train or subway given the choice and provided I'm not laden down by shopping bags. I think the pay according to height rule for kids is rather amusing.Originally Posted by aptain Sensible
I remember when there were practically no signs of life of an evening between the Soi Cowboy & the Nana Plaza. It could be quite creepy walking between the two, and I was always worried about the possibility of being bummed to death along that stretch of road when my mate had already pulled & was back in the hotel exchanging bodily fluids & I was left to hunt alone.Originally Posted by Dougal

It has always been pretty full of Thais young and old the last few times I've used it, mostly white collar types. I haven't tried the subway yet, it will be interesting to contrast it with London Underground when I do.Originally Posted by Harry
The way I see it is that it is like any transport system in a modern city. Runs on time too by all reports. Its all good.
hhehehe. I saved this bit Harry mate. Sorry. Well not really.
That took some guts young harry. Well done you.It could be really quite creepy walking between the two, and I was always worried about how I should hold his erect penis and the possibility of being bummed to death along that stretch of road when my mate had already pulled & I was back in the hotel masturbating freely and the way I see it I was left to hunt alone.

The Skytrain is heavily indebt to its creditors. I think the general consensus is that it should be extended; but the last time they put it out for competitive tender, I understand nobody bid for the Suk. extension.
I'm not sure if that's true, mate. I think all the lines were bid for, but the deals were already done (with lots of grease, obviously. Which is prolly why they're been put on hold).Originally Posted by William
^ that could also be true. I recall the winner of the Port extension was announced the day before comptetive tenders were supposed to have been opened
Its all so easy now. From my apartment on Ekomai it used to take me 2 hours minimum to Rajadamri on Silom. Now its less than half an hour. Cool and efficient. I much prefer it to the subway, it seems faster, and their is a hell of a lot more to look at.
no doubt its a great system (and the MRT also) but the follwoing points to consider ....
overcrowding is an issue, add some more carriages for fucks sake
as is the stupid one way excalators,
to be honest more often than not i'm too lazy to use it and drive the bike or car instead anyway!
TV advertising is an absolute arsehole of an idea!
but i like my comforts!
^ agree, if you are disabled the Skytrain must be a complete arse
The whole city of Bangkok is a nightmare for the disabled!!
I love the Skytrain. I stay near MBK and can now easily get to Nana, Cowboy and even Patpong (shopping). Also to JJ market
very efficient, not too crowded except in rush hours, cool
as for the underground, it is also a good service, nicely fitted out. I have been comparing it to the new one in KL and it is 100% better built
also quite a good price, but that was during the extended special concessions.
When I have to go somewhere not covered, the traffic is so frustrating still, so no change there
I have reported your post
So the BKK subway is better built Andy??
yep,..all that granite and good quality fittings should keep it looking good for a long while.
In KL the paint is peeling, walls have lumps out of them, the rain is getting in etc etc
The Bangkok skytrain map
If you're going to post it twice, at least post a correct one!Originally Posted by dirtydog

Any sidewalk/pavement or crossing a busy soi. it's hell out there!
But, like the tourism ad says "If you don't like Bangkok, fark off to Azerbijaan you cnut!"
The Skytrain is great. Clean, reliable and cheap. Anyone who thinks otherwise come to London and travel on the Underground. It's like taking a bloody expensive ride on a clapped out fairground ghost-train. They sometimes lay on musical acts and variety turns of comedy-drunks, but they're never up to much.
My only complaint with the Skytrain is that doesn't cover a large enough area - it would be nice if it had a line which reached South London.
This appealed to my sense of humour Cap..Originally Posted by Captain Sensible
Please enlighten me as to where you saw the timetable?
For something to 'run on time' there must be a timetable surely
However, they are frequent and don't often break down...
Personally, I prefer the MRT to the BTS, but of course it depends where you're going..
i love it on the MRT when the train leaves the station and all phone signals are lost...and some idiot continues to make out she's having a very important phone conversation...lmto
