    Apartment falling

I've been reading alot it seems about foreign men falling out of apartments, condo's or hotels lately.

It must be a bit hard to fall so shouldn't it read "jumped" or "thrown"?

Is there a new craze called "Condo jumping" only for foriegn men members or has it been going on for a while?

I think there at least two reasons (and of course more):

    1. People that are unstable, not so well-adjusted come to LOS and they play hard: dames, booze, drugs.

    2. Some folks that fit above to number #1 (and others that don't) get ripped off by some BG they think is their soulmate, and lose money, a house, or have their heartbroken.

I just heard another story from a friend of mine about a long-time Pattaya part-time resident (who I've met), who lived their about 5-6 months per year in Pattaya, and the rest in his home-country. He got fleeced. How? He allowed himself to lose lots of money and a domicile. Who's fault is it? His.

    Happy Jumping.

The idea of actually chucking myself of the balcony is totally terrifying to me. I would never be able to do it in a million years. I don't like heights at the best of times.

I would like to have some kind of motorised retracting balcony arrangment with a non-cancellable suicide button which also locked the balcony doors. That way I wouldnt have to actually jump. I would automatically fall to my death at 9.81 m/s2* once the balcony was fully retracted.

*My integral calculus is a bit rusty but I don't think it is that hard to calculate impact speed as a function of floor height from the basic rate of acceleration - if anybody is interested I will dig out a text book.

The suicide numbers are probably even higher than the stats claim. With the sheer numbers of these guys jumping some of them must occasionally land on top of a passing truck or go straight down an open manhole and the hotel would think he had done a runner.

I think it has to do with people expecting Thailand to love them and be their new home then it doesn't work out and they have nothing to fall back on and nowhere to go.

A dude live his life and one day wakes up wondering, "Why am I still alive?" He can fix that. Why not go out with a bang, a blow job and fucked up BMW? More power to 'em

Dude comes here gets played and thinks the only way out is a nose dive off a fuckin balcony? That's just fuckin weak.

Who the fuck are we to guess which is which?

Too bad Random Chances does not have the dairy farm anymore because, if in dire straights, I'd run up there and hook myself up to his milking machine and die 'defunkled'

Could be that some of the leapers have not been ripped off in love or money but simply run out of dosh and can't bear the thought of returning to permadrought.

Jumping off a balcony tends not to be a planned strategy (like say an overdose). Its a spur of the moment thing. Just a flash of madness. Perhaps the toaster doesn't work, and thats thats. You go postal.

Also, its known that impulse jumpers often have a brief moment of clarity the nano-second after they jump to the effect of......"That wasn't a smart thing to do"

Don't ask how I know all this, I just do.

From what I've heard, these men arrive in Pattaya, have some falling out with a whore and then when they realise that said whore is completely heartless and without remorse / heart whatsoever, they think the most attention seeking act is to leap from the balcony.

Halfway down when they realise it's too late, it really is indeed too late.

20 yr old farang jumped out of the window at my condo the other day. Argument with the gf of course. Silly lad, he was only 4 floors up, landed on someone's car and broke his leg.

Well I say silly lad, lucky bastard is probably more appropriate.

For all of you that think that jumping is funny, consider who might be reading.

My Dad jumped from the 6th or 7th floor of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit 5 years ago this month (police couldn't be arsed to figure out which floor, hence I'm unsure.) He fitted none of the stupid hypothesese laid down by previous posters. Suicide is not funny. It's not even weak, in many cases. Don't generalise about things you know nothing about, or worse, read about in the Thai media.

It's a strange way to commit suicide. In UK the number 1 way is drugs, followed by hanging, then drowning and moving objects. Jumping comes a lowly 7. Why is it so popular by western males in Pattaya? There are of course lies, damn lies and statistics, but something is definitely amiss here!

    true, except down

and November Rain, sorry about your dad, but if we didn't laugh at suicide, half of us would cry. I am sure no offense intended

no-one has actually mentioned (except Sledge above) the fact that "jumping" off balconies is also a well-tried method of some gangs for disposing of people who have not paid their bills. The police are also known to have used this method in some countries
    I have reported your post
