Flotsam and jetsam are terms that describe two types of marine debris associated with vessels. Flotsam is defined as debris in the water that was not deliberately thrown overboard, often as a result from a shipwreck or accident. Jetsam describes debris that was deliberately thrown overboard by a crew of a ship in distress, most often to lighten the ship's load. The word flotsam derives from the French word floter, to float. Jetsam is a shortened word for jettison.

Spoils of our trip to the local market after getting the Italian granite installed in the kitchen.

^^ I've never seen granite with that hue before, it looks fantastic.

You'd expect the grey in granite to be the quartz, the white to be plagioclase feldspar and the pink to be orthoclase feldspar. The black is biotite mica.

Your Italian granite must be very rich in plagioclase feldspar? Anyway, it looks great.

While trying to recall what I got up to yesterday, I idly watched some Thai workers from my balcony as I sipped the remains of my Glenlivet.

It initially seems to be quite an innocuous activity...

That was taken from the flare tip on the Shell Prelude, which is the largest vessel ever floated at sea.

We had a great welder that put together our engineered hip roof, but safety was not anywhere on his task list! He would even take his breaks up there so we would throw him a bottle of M-150 which he could snag with one hand.
