Art from spices: I asked a waiting artist outside an Addis Ababa church (1970) to recreate one of the icons inside (no photos allowed). All he needed was the number of the icon from a series of icons on the church walls to produce this...it's faded a bit now, of course, but I still admire his process of mixing spices with water and getting to work. In Amharic, this icon presents the Trinity (selassie-och: Haile Selassie translates to Power of the Trinity).
