The water delivery people should have been here an hour or so ago.
Better go up to the 7 and clear out their water supply just in case. The water in the fish tank doesn't look too appealing.
^ I'm pumping out the pond tomorrow if you get desperate!
...hopefully isn't a tomcat-esque euphemism...
It's a good thing BCPs and Isolation Work Rosters are electronic copies otherwise there would have been the constant sound of breaking glass all day as they got thrown out the windows.
My online business is kaput
#imsofucked
MM gotta go to the Bkk office for 2 days.
This means her self-isolating for 14 or 21 days in me condo when getting back.... if can get back.
3+ weeks locked up alone with the kid in the moo baan.
Great!!
At least I'll have 3 weeks of no beer, I suppose.
Bugger.
Nope in the UK. I seem to have the worst of all worlds atm, not stuck i an airport like Tom Hanks but in limbo nonetheless.
I cannot get across to Thailand (well that's my take given the current restrictions insurance, Med Certs and and an Airline run by idiots who have cancelled flights either side of my outward leg).
I can't see me kids really in the UK (due to isolation issues) and to top it off i am still required to go into work periodically given the current situation and this looks likely to increase which mean the company will (just waiting for the nod) cancel my leave anyway.
I am due to traipse back up to Derby later for 1,2,3,4 who knows how many days.
Exciting times.....
^ How long has paving drives been an essential job?
the knowledge is being transferred to ventilators and we do have another thing to look after too which doesn't like being left to its own devices.
I am just glad we have video comms so at least i can speak and see me nearest (and not so nearest) but dearest.
busted
Fair play to all the essential workers out there. Hope they are getting well rewarded for it.
I have to say what is annoying is that the local supermarkets have switched opening times, have slots for essential workers and changed closing times - all of which is entirely reasonable but wtf they cannot get their online store information updated to reflect these is beyond me. Instead you have to take a punt and go at say midday or later.
btw i don't fall into the essential worker category, somewhere between floor sweeper and sewerage plant operator is my guess.
NZ goes to Level 4 midnight tomorrow, I'm in Wellington and will continue working.
No need for hoarding after supermarket frenzy last week the supermarket seemed well-stacked tonight, fortunate as my emergency rations consist of several kg of chocolate I was to be bringing home on April 4.
I'm sending daughter photos of the wrappers, one each night.
Longest we've ever been apart, 3 months the previous "record" but this current stay looks to be a long one
I'm staying with a friend near the airport, south coast.
I'll be shopping for a housebound old couple I know not far from here, and free time spent cycling in what are already very quiet roads.
How has the Corona virus affected me? Well, was a "not in the least" answer. 'till they shut down the malls. Dental crown installation at clinic in Nonthaburi's Westgate Mall. Molds made, crown ordered, install scheduled for Today, 24MAR.
Saturday, March 21 Bangkok Metro orders Malls to close Mar 22 through Apr 13. No big deal, after all clinic is in a Nonthaburi Mall. Mar 22, outlying provinces follow Bangkok's lead - Westgate Mall closes. Clinic calls, scheduled crown installation at headquarters office near Siam Square.
So, my 20 minute drive to the clinic turned into about a two hour commute. Got it done, no big deal, but, a typical case of a government order resulting in the opposite of the original intention. Instead of resulting in less traffic it caused additional traffic in that myself and wife had to visit Bangkok proper.
Side note to the trip. On the basis of the most recent emphasis on PPE face masks and helpful hints concerning hand sanitization and minimizing travel (unnecessary travel) I expected greater attention by the masses. Expected close to 100% face mask compliance - found about 95% usage on the commuter trains MRT/BTS.
Malls closed - yup - I believe so, but, a shitload of stores remain open. Guess it all depends on what you consider a critical and/or necessary business. Gift shops and clothing stores don't fit the bill in my eyes - but, apparently to the owners - they are critical as they remain open for business. Slew of masked motorcycle taxis and taxi's in general, customer less. Visual confirmation - saw lots of unmasked workers, far more than I expected, traveling in pickup trucks and walking along the sidewalks. Was really quite surprised with how many bare faces I saw on the streets of Bangkok.
Hard to judge how serious the Thai's are taking this "pandemic" even though the forced business closures have cost many of them employment.
Chinese attitudes shift as a result of coronavirus: survey
LONDON (Reuters) - The coronavirus outbreak has led to a shift in attitudes in China, with less tolerance of individualistic behavior and a greater tendency to recognize the contributions of others, according to a survey conducted during the epidemic.
Dutch-based group Glocalities had been collecting data in China as part of an a global survey on trust and values when the outbreak began, allowing it to capture a shift in attitudes as tens of millions of Chinese were locked down.
The survey was conducted online among 2,022 Chinese between Jan. 23 and March 13.
Among the main findings were:
* People placed much more emphasis on etiquette
* Individualistic behavior was unacceptable
* There was more desire for order and structure
* There was rising trust in education and institutions
* There was greater appreciation for those who contribute
“(The survey) reveals that the hardship and tragedy of lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic cause a situation of fundamental reset for populations all over the world,” said Martijn Lampert, research director of Glocalities.
“In times of isolation people increasingly value their fellow humans and especially those who are at the frontline in battling the crisis. This pattern is likely universal and applicable to most affected countries.”
The researchers were able to separate survey responses into before and after Feb. 5, allowing for a comparison in as a result of the lockdown.
Before Feb. 5, 67% strongly agreed that “etiquette and rules determining good manners are very important to me”. After Feb. 5m the figure was 79%.
Asked “if you give people too much freedom they abuse it”, 48% of those surveyed before Feb. 5 strongly agreed. After Feb. 5, 59% strongly agreed.
Some of the biggest changes were around trust. The survey showed confidence in education rose from 71% to 82% before and after Feb. 5. Trust in civil servants rose from 42% to 54% and in Chinese companies from 55% to 70%.
