Every Friday night I would turn the meter 180 deg, same fittings on each side, kept spare washers, reversed the meter had very low gas bills and a hot house!
Had to remember to turn it back the right way Sunday night

Having said that, my younger days were in 1970's Fiji which was at the best of times 10 years behind the modern world, at the worst of times still in the 1920's, so I can relate.
eg, petrol bowsers consisting of a hand lever pump and a large (maybe 10 gallons?) glass tank that gravity fed your fill-up.


The airport fire truck (landrover with fire extinguishers) chasing the cows off the field before any plane could land.
Getting the cane in school and detention after school.
Girls that put out because you were the man and you'd bought dinner.
Simplex boat engines that you had to roll the flywheel to start.
Doing your banking before 4 pm Friday or else you'd have to wait until 9 am Monday.
Buses that stopped anywhere on the route, including so a passenger could have a quick chat with a relative or buy from a roadside stall.

i am one of them OLD FARTS,who loves your avatar,who remembers winter back home 50's-60's when dear mum used to warm an old house brick alongside the open fire grate,then get the coal shovel lift it out of the oven,wrap it in a old scorched cotton sheet,then put it in the bed.
