Robert Peters, millionaire and owner of an antique shop in London, was charged with murder for killing his 7-year-old daughter, Sophia Peters, earlier this month.

The court officially lifted the restriction on reporting the name of the victim on November 8.

Sophia was strangled by Peters using a dressing gown cord while they were both alone in their £1 million (approximately $1.3 million) family home near Wimbledon, South West London on November 3, according to The Guardian.
The child was rushed to St. George’s hospital in Tooting and was immediately placed under life-support due to the severity of her injuries.

Peters was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charge was immediately upgraded to murder after the child died on Saturday, November 4.
“The defendant began to make preparations for the killing by taking the dressing gown cord which was later found tied around Sophia’s neck,” prosecutor Deanna Heer said.
Sophia’s Thai-born mother, Kittiya Promsat, was not at their home at the time of the attack, according to The Sun.

Peters, who runs a £1.3 million (approximately $1.7 million) antiques business with his twin brother, Richard, appeared at a hearing in front of the judge, Mark Lucraft, at the Old Bailey on November 10.
The defendant only reportedly spoke to confirm his identity while in court. He is now under police custody until his plea hearing, which is set for Jan. 26, followed by a provisional trial on April 23.
Promsat posted a tribute to her daughter on her Facebook account, which has since been set to private, writing: “I love you a lot and love you for ever sweetheart.

Is that pic really his misses, looks far too old to be the mother of a 7 year old. Anyway seems to be have been a fair few killings and beatings of nonces and child killers in prison of late so hopefully this cvnts name will be added to the list.

The British Antiques business has been in the doldrums for years, but there's no reason for this.

That's just it, isn't it? I mean, he's obviously experienced some sort of mental breakdown that resulted in this tragedy. I'd imagine even the world's most revered psychiatrists will struggle with defining this one.

    Sad, sad, too sad.

Antiques dealer jailed for life for strangling daughter as wife says he should have killed himself

    The Daily Telegraph

    Martin Evans, crime correspondent

A wealthy antiques dealer, who strangled his seven-year-old daughter, should have killed himself rather than her, his devastated wife has said.

Robert Peters, 56, who was having an affair behind his wife’s back, was jailed for a minimum of 24-years after throttling schoolgirl, Sophia at their £1 million home in Wimbledon, south west London. In a statement, Sophia's mother, Krittiya Peters, said she wished her husband had left her and set up home with his mistress, and then perhaps their daughter would still be alive.

In a statement, she said: "I don't care about him as he killed our beautiful daughter.

"I always think to myself 'If Robert was ill, why didn't he kill himself? Why did he kill my innocent daughter?"
She added: "Sophia was a beautiful, loving, active, adventurous, brave and outgoing girl. She loved to dance and sing. I would give anything I have to be able to bring my daughter back."

Mrs Peters went on: "I wish if only Robert had permanently left and set up home with his mistress, I would still have (Sophia)."
Peters murdered his daughter last November, claiming later that it was part of a plan to kill the whole family because he feared bankruptcy.

The killing came just over a month after depressed Peters was found not to be a risk by a Merton child protection team, despite two attempts to kill himself in 2017. He initially admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but confessed to murder mid-way through his Old Bailey trial. Jailing him for life with a minimum term of 24 years, Mr Justice Edis said: "This was a determined premeditated killing in which there was an intention to kill.

"It is impossible to imagine the last few conscious minutes of that child's life. She was a lovely little girl who loved her parents and thought that they loved her.
"Asleep in bed, she no doubt felt safe and believed that, should she need it, she had the protection of her father.
"Her shock and bewilderment to find that he was set on her death amounted, in my judgment, to an intentional act of cruelty over and above the killing itself.
"I do not think the defendant intended to wake her up but, when she did, he carried on anyway, now knowing that the death would not be a painless and oblivious event."
Peters, who had been cheating on his wife, was "deceitful and manipulative, calculating and disingenuous" in the way he hid his plans to kill, the judge said.

He added: "This was a premeditated crime carefully thought through and relentlessly executed."

Robert Peters was sentenced at the Old Bailey CREDIT: PA

The court had heard that Peters had recently ended a two-and-a-half-year affair with a married Home Office official he met online. He was also worrying about his finances and claimed his Kensington-based oriental antiques business was going bankrupt, even though he drove a Jaguar car and had money in the bank.
In the months before the killing, he searched the internet for "serial killers", "treatment of child killers in prison" and "premeditated murder".

He chose his opportunity to kill Sophia before she was due to return to her £5,000-a-term boarding school after the half-term break. Peters waited until his wife had gone out before he woke Sophia up in bed by tying a cord around her neck and throttling her for up to half an hour.

Mr Justice Edis said the Old Bailey was not the forum to investigate the "efficiency or effectiveness" of the assessment of Peters before the killing, but said the evidence showed it was not a "rushed or hurried effort".

He said Peters' brother had called the defendant "duplicitous" and his behaviour towards the Merton home treatment team only illustrated it. The defendant, who admitted murder on the third day of his Old Bailey trial, gave away no emotion as he was sent down.

Detective Inspector Helen Rance, of Scotland Yard, said: "The death of a child is something no family should have to go through, but the fact that Sophia Peters died at the hands of her own father makes it truly dreadful."
"Sophia was a loving and much-loved child whose loss has devastated all who knew her from her family through to her school friends and teachers. I hope that the conclusion of the judicial process will be of some comfort to all those so terribly affected by her death."

An NSPCC spokesman said: "This is a desperately sad case in which a young girl's life was cut brutally short by her own father."
"Cases where a young child is murdered in these horrific circumstances are mercifully rare but we know that abuse and neglect take place every day in too many homes across the country, each damaging a child's future. We all have a duty to look out for their welfare."

In the UK last 2-3yrs there's been a few depraved muderers/child killers/rapists getting badly beaten or killed in jail. Maybe staff are slacking off and forgetting to lock a few doors.

That Ian Huntley guy has been brought back to life twice, both after having his throat cut. Shame.

So, are we to assume the reason he killed his daughter was to defray the expense of her school fees? The world is indeed a slough of despond.

£5k a term for a boarding school in the UK is cheap, most private schools want that for day pupils. Sick cvnt could have sold his jag or just moved his daughter to a state school.

Cue Merton CP team citing NHS cutbacks, overwork or lack or resources. As the OB judge suggested his court is not the correct one to comment. Indicating another is.

A known threat that is released, needs to be investigated.

    Heart-breaking!

If there was a GOD things like this should never happen to young innocent and helpless children.

The father is a heartless bastaird who should be killed for what he did. The world will be better-off if he was gone.

He claimed he was planning to kill the whole family but only killed the girl before getting nicked.

Possibly more sinister reason she had to die ?
