Việt Nam launches tourism website

The Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) last week announced the launch of its new official tourism
website Home | VN Tourism

The website will feature articles by top travel writers and bloggers as well as photos of popular destinations.

It is currently available only in English, but more languages will be added.

Nguyễn Văn Tuấn, the general director of VNAT, said: “The goal is to make this one of the top 10 tourism sites in the world.”

The portal hopes to attract 10 million unique users a year.

Việt Nam expects to have 9.7 million foreign and 62 million domestic visitors and earn total revenues of VNĐ400 trillion ($17.9 billion) this year.

I found out you don't even need a Visa if you are a UK national and your visit is under 15 days.

I personally believe the Vietnamese will be doing just that in the near future if they are serious about maximizing their tourist potential. If they are not, the high visa costs will go even higher. As an American, I am required to purchase a 1 year visa and have postponed my plans to see Vietnam until they lower the visa costs to previous levels. Only time will tell.

They only let McD enter last 2014 or 2013, I think. They let Jollibee in, in the early 2000s. It's a pinoy burger chain. In 2014, there were more than 10 branches of Jbee, while only 2 of McD.

But don't worry, KFC, Dunkin Donuts & Starbucks were well represented in Saigon. In 2005, it was only KFC & Jbee.

If you visit the War Remnants Museum, Cu Chi tunnels & Independence Palace, you'll see lots of anti US propaganda.

Btw, I'm half Viet, and my family is from the South, so they also lost the war. And they lost Saigon (due to the name change).

Citizens of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos holding valid ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements and are allowed to stay for no more than 30 days; Philippine citizens are allowed to stay for no more than 21 days; Brunei and Myanmar citizens are allowed to stay for no more than 14 days.

From 01 January 2015 to the end of 31 December 2019, citizens of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Japan, South Korea and Russia are exempt from visa requirements and are allowed to stay for no more than 15 days.

From 1 July 2015 to end of 30 June 2017, citizens of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, are exempt from visa requirements and are allowed to stay for no more than 15 days.

From 1 July 2015 to end of 30 June 2020, citizens of Belarus are exempt from visa requirement and are allowed to stay for no more than 15 days.

Nope, I knew abt it since last year, when I was planning for my April 2016. I saw the news article when it came out, and I was glad for it. A German friend was supposed to do the SEA trip w/ me, and Vn was included in the itinerary. Friend cancelled due to work reasons. I do read CNN & BBC, and sometimes livescience, not just TD. Heh.

Our Vietnam vets do deserve some major compensation for that idiotic decision. The American government played it all wrong back then. Maybe countries should compensate all other countries they caused civilian deaths in as well.
