Rules relaxed for fans attending Socceroos (Australia) match with Thailand

Fans attending Australia's 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Thailand in Bangkok will be allowed to cheer, sing, bring in banners and wear jerseys after the Thai government announced restrictions would be lifted the day before the November 15 match.

Originally football fans had been told to resist any "joyful activities" at the match, such as chanting, and to wear neutral colours like black, white and grey after the death of Thai king Bhumibol Adulyadej sent the country into a state of collective grief.

Thailand’s military government declared a period of mourning for which some temporary new laws were introduced regarding public behaviour.

However the Thailand Football Association (FAT) announced that the restrictions would be lifted on November 14, one day before the match.
"The Thai Cabinet has announced that the restrictions on entertainment activities, including sports organizations, shall be lifted on 14 November 2016 after the completion of the first 30 days of mourning period."

"In this regard, all supporters attending the match shall (1) dress in polite manner as they see appropriate, (2) use cheering equipment, (3) show symbols and bring banners inside the stadium (4) sing cheering songs and (5) appropriately conduct joyful activities both inside and surrounding areas of the stadium"

"However, all details shall be in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA."

While the country mourned, the (Thailand's) squad was in a marathon camp for three weeks preparing solely for the match, while locals debate whether it's the biggest in their history. They host the reigning Asian champions in their first appearance in the final round of World Cup qualifiers and if they can find any success against Australia, their coach has already dedicated that to King Bhumibol.

"It's a sad moment for us. The players have the mission and desire to play their best to give happiness to the Thai people and also their best for the past king," Thailand coach Kiatisuk Senamuang said. "Realistically its a very hard game because it's not easy playing Australia but they will try to do their best tomorrow."

In a powerful moment, four active supporter groups of the national team; Cheer Thai Power, Ultras Thailand, South Curve Unit Thailand and Thailand Hardcore will sit together, sing in unison and hinted at a major visual display in the stands to honour the death of King Bhumibol.

"Before the game, all the groups will get together and we will have a ceremony for the King. We will play for the King and after that we will come together in the stadium and during the game," Cheer Thai Power member, Punlop, said. "We have something very, very special and a surprise for all people watching this game."

20 mins left in the game ... 2 - 2 ... awesome play by the much lower ranked Thai team.

Lots of singing and chanting - Thai

Many/Most of the the crowd is in Blue, the same as the Thai football shirt, balance wearing black.

Aussies wearing black arm bands.

Penalty goals to both sides.

EDIT:- BTW, the pitch (oval, sports ground, field) looks like it's had an international Rugby test match played on it as a pre-game warm up.

Friggin' divits and mole holes everywhere ... bit like Nana Plaza on any given night.

EDIT 2:- and that how it finished ... a respectfull draw.

I know fuck all about soccer but that was a decent game to watch. Plenty of chances for both teams and played at a fast pace. FWIW the odds pre kick off were Australia 1.26, Thailand 11.00, and the draw 6.00. So by that, Thailand played well above expectations.

Yes, well played the blue boys. I think the weather might have helped, the Aussies seemed to struggle with the heat/humidity.
Great effort and a good result.
